Yeah, my alarm clock has a radio and when it woke me up at around 6 AM today the station was saying something about how the Gulf refinery that's about 30 minutes from here caught fire and had some tankers explode. My parents were watching the news when I found them and we saw some video of the refinery on fire against the night sky. They said the place ignited at around midnight, which is somewhat lucky because that area has some pretty high traffic during the day (in fact yesterday my parents went to the building next to it for a meeting and stayed until 9:45 PM!).
I got a call from a friend saying that school was canceled for the day, so cool. I had to go with mom to her workplace instead, so I changed and grabbed my backpack+laptop.
Outside was pretty gnarly, seeing as how there was this HUGEASS mushroom cloud in the sky, and if you went to the overpass a few miles down you could even see the refinery on fire from far away. I took some cellphone pictures but I can't upload them, so here:
News article, in english for you baka gaijinsVideo of smoke cloudIt's still burning and the only injured was some guy that inhaled some smoke. He was taken to the hospital (which is right next door to me at the moment). Fire's expected to last for a few days. At least the wind is blowing the smoke out to sea and not to the urban areas.
Yeah. This is my morning. How are you guys doing?
