Yeah I know, Nintendo Puzzle Collection isn't exactly the newest game out there and all, but I just had to bring up a topic about it as I just finally received my own copy today.
Anyhoo, this game is a compilation of 3 well-known Nintendo puzzle games: Dr. Mario, Yoshi's Cookie, and Panel de Pon.
Dr. Mario is essentially a remake of Dr. Mario 64 put on the GCN, as it seems the japanese didn't actually get the N64 incarnation. All of the previous version's features are preserved, including 4-player vs. mode.
Yoshi's Cookie is a clean update of the old NES/SNES games with clearer graphics and crisp music. The object is to arrange the displayed cookies rubik's cube-style so that they clear out in whole rows.
Panel de Pon is probably the most impressive update of the bunch. It has a brand new story acting as a distant sequel to the original game(the player plays as descendants of Lip and her friends) and retains all of the games and features from the N64 version, Pokemon Puzzle League, including the puzzle mode(clear the whole screen in X moves to pass), garbage mode(the opponent's combos and chains lead to garbage blocks on your screen), score mode(play for score), line mode(get all blocks under the line asap), and 3D mode(you play on a cylinder instead of a rectangular playing field). It also has a fast-paced multiplayer vs. mode allowing 2-4 players to compete in garbage, score, or line modes.
All 3 games also have a download feature where players can put single-player versions of each game onto their GBAs via the GCN/GBA link cable, one of which comes included with the game.
Overall a truly fantastic compilation, and it is really disappointing that it never saw the light of day outside of japan.
