My hard drive has been collecting dust for 2 years.
so is this a mistake in the making: putting my vacume cleaner hose on the back of my hard drive to suck them all out.

This seems very unprofessional and I'm scared that it could wreck it's inards.

is it ok, or is there a better way to do it.

Unless you have some sort of seriously weird/old? hard drive I doubt there's even somewhere for dust to get in.

It's not the same AT ALL. Also there's a lot more to it than just a hard drive and a DVD drive.

Go to computer store, buy a can of compressed air.
Use that.

Also; not same diff. Different things need different methods of cleaning.

You shouldn't, you should refer to it as what it actually is.

Compressed air works for cleaning computers. If I will stick one into my laptop to clean it, it'll work on a PC. Though you'll haveta take it apart (the case, I mean).

W-H-O C-A-R-E-S

well it does matter in this case, because dust can easily destroy a hard drive if it gets through the air filter; practically everything else in the computer is immune to dust unless it's covered in a blanket of it

but if it's the computer case, then yeah compressed air should do (or a cloth)

You are correct that a vacuum cleaner would be a bad idea (unless it's a special static-free vacuum but we can safely assume you don't have that). Sucking dust out of the back won't do anything anyway because if you have a lot of dust there, then you have a lot of dust everywhere inside the case.

nobody except for the tragically uninformed (you) calls it a hard drive.
not even most "common" people.

they may not know to call it a "case," but they certainly don't call it a hard drive. they might just refer to it as "the computer" since most common people don't care to know what's inside.

if you are calling it a hard drive and telling other people to call it a hard drive, then you should stop immediately and apologize to anyone you may have misinformed.

that is all
