That person must have never looked at a clock or discussed time before.

To tell you the truth, if the argument was complicated and if they wrote it like the second person. The second person would have more votes than the first one, because people would look at the fancy stuff instead of the other stuff.

Ah, but 2.5 * 4 in hex = 9.4! So Person 1 and 2 both fail at hexidecimal math.

Seriously though, this happens a lot to me. Generally, if I don't have the slightest clue about something, I don't attempt to prove one way or the other.

However, I imagine that I would be more inclined to side with charisma (be it fallacy) over leet-speak logic.

Who the hell are you arguing with?!

I'd save all argument and slap these idiots in the face, then hurl some preschool guides to mathematics at them. Jesus christ.

you're 19 and this is the kind of discussions you have?

I mean the person is incorrect, but to not just shush the discussion away before even starting arguing is silly - if he's anything your age I'd just ' nope.gif ' and leave.

Oh my goodness

If he really tries to withhold such blatant mistake, then you should really try to avoid the person at all costs and forever from now on

Seriously.

oh and that 2 + 2 = 22 example is possible if both '2' are string values instead of integer values lololololol

I do agree. Arguments are all about charisma (or on the internet, spelling and grammar) these days. If you can give off the right vibe, you can destroy in debates.

As an example, in law class in high school we would often be given cases which we had to argue. Half the class would go on one side, and half to the other. I was, in every case, given the side that wasn't really the one of "public opinion" so to speak which meant if we didn't have good points, we would lose simply because the jury (a smaller group of students) would side with the "nice" side simply because it seemed nicer.

We ended up winning most of the debates, and my group was thankful to me for that. I wasn't coming up with the most amazing rebuttles, but I used charisma generally. Being 6'5" and having the other side sitting, I loomed over them, speaking heavily with my hands, and nailed home my points. It simply made my ideas seem better than those that would be sort of nervously stammered by a shy student because they simply seem unsure of themself.

I think that's a big part of it. If you can debate with a straightforward manner that is charismatic and strong, you sound like you know your stuff even if, in truth, you're spouting bull****.

I feel ashamed to say that this person is in his late thirties. I'm sort stamping a couple of my own beliefs by adding the following fact, but... HE STILL PLAYS POKEMON CARDS.
