You know those values that tell you the sizes of wires in CPUs? You know, 80nm, 45nm, 35nm? They're lies. That's not really how small the wires are. They're even SMALLER. They are small enough to be about 5-10 Silicon atoms wide, which is .55nm - 1.1nm. Tiny!
That also explains why CPUs are so expensive.

well actually cpus are expensive because high-ass purity silicon is expensive especially when yields are typically quite ****ty and rejected dice have to be remelted and repurified. oh and the labs and equipment aren't cheap either

also the sizes generally refer to other things such as memory cell sizes

In biology, we talked about glycolysis, which makes sense if you're going to use the end result for aerobic respiration, but pretty pointless IMO if you're not.

I was talking about the sizes being a factor because of the technology required to cut so tiny. Materials is an obvious factor, so I didn't mention it.
