World 1-1! I am nostalgia incarnate!

We all know World 1-1. The hidden 1-Up, the Warp Pipe, the Starman, and it's the first ever Super Mario level ever made ever. It's nostalgic.

But... do you ever get tired of people using the level in their fangames? I must admit I am tired of the level by now, and I was guilty of a 1-1 remake once as well.

By the way, might as well say, "Hello's SMB1 Engine." Pretty much every game made with it has the 1-1 level nigh unchanged. That's just laziness though.

Keep in mind, Nintendo has never reused World 1-1 in a mainstream Mario game outside of Super Mario Bros.. Not even once. If we're recycling the level more often than the actual company who made it, something's up.

Discuss the reuse of World 1-1, or any other "nostalgic levels" from Mario, in a fangame only. Not your favorite level or how difficult a level is.

This isn't what the discussion is about, but that's probably because I poorly worded my last sentence.

Just a future note, this topic is for the discussion of the reuse of "classic" or "nostalgic" levels from official Mario games in a fangame. And your preference thereof.

Personally, ZK, I find the 1-1 level a nice treat when done tastefully.

Ehhhhhhhh I could go a little bit both ways on "taste." If done right in a good game with a good engine and it at least has the memorable details (nobody ever adds the 1-Up for some reason) it'd be better than what some people do to it, but it still comes across as slightly lazy because it's not a big level, it's one that most Mario fans have played several thousand times, and it's not even an original level.

I think that no matter what, an original level triumphs 1-1, but in a pinch, 1-1 will do merely okay (as a bonus level or early level, preferably).

World 1-1 of SMB is not the only victim of this epidemic. Heck, the recent fangames I've played would include something similar to the first level of SMB2 (USA), NSMB even.

In my opinion, I don't mind them being reused as levels if they have some sort of twist to them or something. Take Toad Strikes Back for example.

Not in the MAINSTREAM MARIO SERIES they didn't.

And neither Paper Mario NOR New Super Mario Bros. had a full-on remake of 1-1.

The bug-eyed guy has something to do with Littlink's sig or something, it wasn't there before he posted.
