I have already worked out why they are helping Mario, so need to worry about that. Some good ideas here thow. A crouch jump for Waluigi could be good.

I have begun work on some overworld map tiles for Peach's castle and surroundings. SOme of it can be seen in my sig.

I thought waluigi's special ability could be something like this:


Waluigi could crouch to charge up, and when he's charged, you could release the button to have waluigi superjump straight up into the air, OR you could hold a key (i.e right or left) to have waluigi aim in that direction, and when the button is released, waluigi would perform the equivalent of a running jump by standing in one spot, which could be useful on small platforms

OMG SECRET AREA.

Hehe. The way things are shaping up is like this (I have been talking with DinnerSonic a lot): Each character's speciality will allow them to access certain areas and paths of the map that the others can not. This way, you won't have explored eveything until you play each level with each character.

It breaks down like this, at the moment:

Mario - Normal Run / Jump (Walljumping to access areas)
Luigi - Normal Run / High running jump (jumping high to access areas)
Wario - Slower Run / Normal Jump (Charge attack, which breaks open rocks into new areas)
Waluigi - Faster Run / Long Jump (jump long gaps to access areas)

The secret area thing, instead of say, wall/high/long jumping or charging to like, a small area with a sercret powerup or something, there should be like, multiple paths to go through the levels, that are acsessed using the special moves.

I once tried a Waluigi fangame. I have good ideas, but the games that come out of them are crap. I have some ideas:

Mario: Jump, Wallkick, Fireball Power
Luigi: Scuttle Jump, Luigi Torpedo, Thunderhand Power
Wario: Ground Pound, Charge, Throwing Power
Waluigi: Super High Jump...I dunno the rest.

Here's some of the ideas we came up with in that AIM convo:

-Waluigi should have bomb's or something

-Know what I always thought would be a cool idea? Kind of like, you start out as one character, and it's like Metroid how your access to areas is limited by who you play as, but eventually Luigi will join and if there's an area you can't reach, you switch to him and you can, then you get Wario who can ram through walls and such, and Waluigi could do something else when you get him, so you basically switch between all characters etc etc etc

-Well, you could just press a button and have one disappear and the other appear, or you could have "switching pipes" where if you go down, a little menu comes up giving you the option to choose who you want to play as

As I said on MSN, I really like the concept. Especially coding in Java, it would probably be a lot more flexible that way.

There are basic archtypes to every game. They are prominant in Megaman, Sonic, Mario, and most RPGs. The levels/temples/stages/whatever are always.

1. Forest (ex. Sonic's first stage in every game, Rose Woods in Mario RPG, Wood Man)
2. Under water (M&L, Mario RPG, Bubble Man in MM2, Hydro City in Sonic 3)
3. Fire or Volcano (Lava Reef, Heat/Fire/Flame Man, Barrel Volcano)
4. Mechanical (Death Egg/Metropolis, Smithy's Factory)
5. Sky (Air Man, Flying Battery, Nimbus Land, World 5 in Mario 3)
6. Underground (Mystic Cave in Sonic 2, Moleville Mines)
7. Desert/Pyramid (Mario 3, Paper Mario, Earthbound, Sandopolis in Sonic 3, Pharoah Man)
8. Space (Mario Land 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles)
