I know its kinda a late reply but oh well. That wall running and jumping sounds very much like the wall running and jumping in my Yoshi game. Except in my game, Yoshi starts to slow down after a while, untill he falls off. But you can jump onto another wall before that. I actually got it to work too.

I'm just guessing that he used SMB2 attributes where power would mean picking things up faster and not being slowed down as much while you carry stuff.

that tile sheet is awesome, if you need anyhelp with some, tiles are my specialty.

Edit: it also looks like you have 4 availible tiles, why not use them for something, like a blooper jumping?

These are my suggestions:
0-Every area have a theme and specificy puzzles.Could be Field,The Mountain,Beach,Iceland,GhostMansion,Cloudland and Temple of Stars
1-Every area could have 4 or 5 five normal stages, 1 boss stage and 1 mini-game stage.
2- The normal stage could have a normal way, and three ways acessible by one specificy power-up.In this way, you want a power-up or a important thing(like Stars in SM64).The end of stage have a dumb mini-boss.
3-You will acess the boss stage if you have a number of important thing.In this stage, you must take a key and bring to a boss door.The boss of the area have 3 or 4 four types of attack.You reach the weak point and defeated.
4-InMini-game stage, you must pay X coins to play a mini-game.If you win,You get a object to future use.
5-You begin with Luigi and you must save the others brothers.
6- Luigi have a highjump, a spin jump(he could fly a little) and more...
7-Mario have norlmal jump, hammer attack and more....
8-Wario could break bigger blocks,or take big enemies and more...
9-Waluigi have bombs to throw and see invisible things and...
10-In Spriters Resource, the Mario sprites of Omega are very cool.You must see.
11-The enemies could be form Mario and Wario universe or a new ones.
12-Could have two endings.
13- I could help you in the engine, but I used Game Maker.
My English skills are not good, but you can understand.

Some enemies should probably take more than one hit... Wario should do double damage. Hell he rips pillars out of the ground on GCN XD

EDIT: sahdsakdksa WARIO CAN RIP OBJECTS OUT AND THROW THEM TO SOLVE PUZZUELSLDSADsafa

Also make some blocks only Wario can destroy with his punches and hip drops.
