This is a pretty info-less announcement, but I decided I might as well make my secret project public. As many of you guessed (and apparently hoped), my next project wil indeed be Super Mario Epic 3. As far as a storyline goes, I don't have one yet, although I have a pretty good idea who the main villian will probably be (don't want to reveal it just yet, though, in case I change my mind). No screenshots to speak of, either, as I'm still working on parts of the engine. Reading reviews for SME and SME2 was really helpful in developing ideas for this game. For instance, stuff I know to change this time around: - The Advance Coins will give you something better than free access to power-ups... sorry about that
 - Interaction with enemies will be more realistic
- Static engine (more on that later)
Those were really the only recurring complaints. So what's staying in? - SMW Reserve Box
- Fire Flower and Hammer Bros. Suit
- Vegetables
- Various things from SME and SME2
The static engine isn't mine, it was actually created by a guy named "Chancey" (edited to fit my needs). The engine runs REALLY smoothly and therefore you won't suffer the built-in movement glitches from SME and SME2. I'm debating how Mario will interact with Shyguys, Goombas, and Koopa Troopas, respectively. I'm using Rage's fantastic fireball engine, so the fireballs actually bounce now. While we're on the topic of power-ups, there is apparently a trend in the SME games that dictates that a new power-up is added each time. SME featured only the Fire Flower. SME2 kept the Fire Flower and added the Hammer Bros. Suit. Now SME3 is going to bring it a step further by keeping both of those and introducing the Power Carrot from Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins. For those of you who haven't played the game, the Power Carrot turned Mario in Bunny Mario, which in turn allowed him to use the bunny ears on his hat to slowly float to the floor. I decided to use that particular item because I'm very fond of that game (you'll notice SME2 had a lot of SML2 influences) and because very, very few games implement the Power Carrot. I'm hoping to have more levels this time around as well, but we'll see what happens. Questions? Comments? This post has been edited by Captain Jeff Silvers on Mar 3 2005, 08:40 PM

| QUOTE (Hanyou @ Jan 10 2005, 08:49 PM) | Woah, it IS SME3? From the all the **** you went through with finishing SME2, this is unexpected. XD
Sounds great so far. If you need any help with the engine/programming or spriting, It'd be an honor. |
Yeah, all the s*** towards the end of SME2's production sucked, but it was totally worth it when I finished and, surprisingly, the game recieved pretty good reviews from most who played it. When I first released SME2 I was pretty sure I was done, but then I read all the comments and realized people (in and out of MFGG) seemed to like it, so I decided maybe I could do it one more time.
And I'll be sure to keep you in mind for programming and sprites, both of which I'll probably need quite a bit (I'm wanting to use a lot more original sprites this time around).
