I am going to use this topic, and bump it whenever necessary, for my game Mario Land: Minigame Mayhem. If I run out of bandwidth on Geocities, you won't see the images.

In this latest update - 10 New screens showing off new minigames completed or in the works, and updated graphics. If anyone knows of a good image host that isn't geocities, let me know.

user posted image
Updated Arcade graphics, to make it feel more "techy", notice the floor lights, they spin around.

user posted image
Platform Panic, basically a "!" will appear above a random block and moments later it will blow up, be standing on the last one left to win.

user posted image
Wind Game - Toni and I came up with this game idea a while back, it goes like this *copy and paste job*
Platform Wind Game - Avoid goomba's while getting pushed by wind, wind changes direction and the platform gets smaller after a while.
Wing Game thingy:
Basically, you're on a platform and the wind is blowing. I can do the traction thing you said too. Now, random enemies fall from a pipe or two above, and depending on what it is, you deal with it differently. Like, it might be a Bob-omb which will walk back and forth and eventually explode (avoid), or a Goomba which you can stomp or avoid and it'll walk off, or a spiny which wich you CAN'T stomp but will walk off. Perhaps a bullet bill will fall and only go into "horizontal flying mode" when he reaches your height, so you have to time your jump well.
Also, after a little while, a block from either end of the platform will break off, causing it to become a smaller platform

user posted image
Rotating rope jump - Another complete minigame, the rope swings in a circle, and each 5 jumps it speeds up, eventually if you don't hit it, you win.

user posted image
This game is going to be something like that Boo's Treat game SP made, or Kuribo catch or something, not sure yet.

user posted image
The old Treetop turmoil was rubbish, and had a cheap jumping engine and looked wierd, so this one is a little different and now with 8-direction movement instead of jumping. Basically, the light will show a colour and you'll have to go stand on the same colour tree, then the other trees will flame up, after a while the speed increases.

user posted image
E-Z-Capsule machine, it has 10 random capsules in it, each with coin prizes or prizes that make you lose coins, I may also add special prizes, but for now I won't give away what prizes you can get.

user posted image
And this newest one has bob-ombs running at random speeds from left to right accross the screen, and you have to take a chance and hit the switch, which sends fire upwards to the ignition thing, and if you hit it, you get coins and a chance to either take the coins earned, or go again. The object is to avoid hitting them with fire, and only hit the top things, that flame travels accross the rope and sets the top things on fire, which gives you a coin amount.

This screen shows some graphical updates on the overworld, there are a lot of upgrades.

This shows more.

And while this topic is here, feel free to suggest any ideas, which can include things to put in the overworld or minigames.

I've recently had an idea to extend the longevity of the game. For one, you will have to purchase minigame-specific items from a shop, or win them. These can include things like:

Hammer – Play Hammer based minigames
Arcade Game Card – Play Certain Arcade Games
Haunted House Key – Gain Access to the Haunted House
Arcade VIP Card – Gain Access to the Arcade

This will make it seem more like a proper game. Another addition is a high score system for any game I wish to put it to, thanks to RII's masterful help, there's already one for the Whack a mole minigame, and any others I can think of. Here's a screen of that.

Lookin good.
I do have two ideas though.

1. Arcade seems kinda empty in spots. Might want to add something there for decoration.
2. For the jumprope game, you can have that for every 5 jumps (speed increase), you get a set amount of coins, and you play till you lose.

As for suggestions, I'll quote Someguy from your Goombella sprite topic.

That was my whole idea in the first place, I just need a decent character following engine, and don't point me to the one at SFGHQ, it's rubbish.

The arcade will look less bare once more stuff goes in there, and it's meant to have classic game remakes on the arcade machines (Space Invaders, Jumpman / Mario bros etc)

And the jumprope game is staying how it is, it gets mighty fast and would be too easy to win money if you won every 5 jumps, there has to be a way that you could NOT win money.

I like it. For spicing up the arcade, I'd suggest having machines that someone is always playing, and if you try to talk to them, you either hear some game tunes (EX talking to link in SMRPG) or they yell at you.

For character following... just popped out of my head... ever think of using a counter? I'm not sure how, but you might be able to use a counter as a delay and program the movements the same. For example:

You hold over, you move over. However, for goombella it sets a counter to 3. Counter is periodically subtracted from, and when it equals zero then Goombella can turn right. It might work, I certainly have not tested it out.

For following I suggest an array that constantly records the last x coordinates of mario. The character that follows will always have its coordinates set to the oldest coordinates stored in the array.

I think it'd be cool if there was a minigame similar to something in Minish Cap...

(Marked for spoilers in case someone here really doesn't want to know about one of the extras in MC)

Spoilers:
Where you can use your coins to buy little figurines of various Mario characters. The more coins you spend the higher chance of getting a figurine you don't have/a rare figurine. The figurines come with a little description of the enemy/whatever.

Completely pointless, but people like me get a kick out of stuff like that, and it could give you an opportunity to sprite some characters who aren't in the game otherwise or something.

Bananahead, the link doesn't work, even when I do remove the extra http bit.
Edit: Never mind, got it, i'll check it out now.
Edit 2: I guess it works, but it's a little too "machiney", it feels very forced. I'd prefer something like what RII said, but i'm not sure how to do that.

Dr Wario, i'll definitely have a person already playing an arcade game, that's like a thing that's in any arcade area in any arcade.

RII, not sure what you mean, or how to do that.

Kamek, I might do something like that, but that depends on whether I want to sprite other characters or not. It'd be fine and all if most of the characters weren't already in the game, so seeing them as a figurine wouldn't be much of a surprise, and creating new versions of them would be way to difficult for such a large task.

Well RII pm'ed me how it's done, but i've never used an array object before. He said he may do a proper tutorial, which could be useful for anyone.

I actually changed my entire shceme for using it mid-explaination, I don't think it requires too much work. Ironing out some of the finer details to make the movement as natural as possible might take a little extra machinery.

Never used an array? :O *dies*

In terms of making it feel like a complete game perhaps you could have "boss" battles which are Minigames where you square off against some villian (these would recquire XXX coins to play, a number higher than most games) If you win the minigame, you get a ticket, and with 5 tickets or something, you can face the Final Boss of the game. Just a thought. Not sure what else you have planned along those lines.

Was already going to have "boss battles", but that does put a unique spin on things.
