Drawing Contest # Whaddeva - Paper Subcon

I would like to say, though, Jet, Press Start and I are really the only people who actually did anything remotely papery. SP's doesn't look papery, and is quite scratchy and sketchy, even though it is a good drawing. But it's uncoloured, and very small. The other two lightly-penciled and coloured-outside-the-lines-by-crayon pictures with no background are also not papery at all and are VERY poor. All of these entries do not stand a chance against already FULLY coloured, shaded, inked and papery entries because it's clearly shown a lot of time and effort were spent on these. I think all in all, this competition (seeing as it was already somewhat done) is a failure and voting should just start now for first place.

Paper Mario doesn't really look papery either (well, the still art anyway). And that is what this competition was - to make Paper Mario styled SMB2 art.

To prove my point:

And competitions have never been limited to fully colored images with perfect outlines so I fail to see how that makes mine less of an acceptable entry.

Hi, if you've actually played the game, you'd see everything in game is actually QUITE papery.

But okay. Yours DOES have a black outline around it. But it's not coloured, it's still very sketchy, and not smooth. And it's not even a full piece, unless you wanted to do just Tryclyde. But there's also no background, and nothing else to the picture. But it is one of the closer ones and I'd accept it.

Jet's and mine, black outlines on those who are flat and facing the screen, and with mine the things like big bosses and blocks that are 3D and made up of many papery cutouts and stuff, it looks that way. Everything that is coloured is coloured in CORRECTLY, and your lines are, at least, darker and not made with a very light pencil without being inked. Press Start's is sort of a satirical version of "Paper Mario style", with actual paper cut outs, just like in the commercials, which is very acceptable because it is well done.

The others simply do not stand a chance, because (no offense, guys) the pictures lack the effort and skill. I'm not just talking about what the characters look like or the actually arty stuff itself (besides the colouring which is outside the lines) but those two don't have one straight or smooth line in them, and the "title" in the first one isn't even centered correctly. And just because it says PAPER TOWN and you drew it on a PIECE OF PAPER doesn't mean it's PAPERY at all.

DoomPlateSpecial: He can't just not be here for three months and then say "WAIT UP FOR ME OR ELSE ITS NOT FAIR". Bull****.

Apparently, Klobber and i are having the same conversatiion. HE IS NOT THE GOD OF THIS FORUM, FOR CHRIST'S SAKE.

he's an admin. but he shouldnt be the one doing stuff like holding off art comps and such that ARE RUN BY THE MEMBERS and not the admins unless one happens to win. O_o

I personally do not think it is fair either - The fact that Parakarry is working on an entry should be enough for you to wait for the real ending date. Just because there is a chance that he will enter. Other people would be able to get an entry done in time as well.

Ending the competition early just because you dislike what's been entered so far is also silly to me.

Actually, my reason for ending the competition is because it's old and rehashed and already done, for the most part. No offense to Trasher. A lot of people have actually decided NOT to enter in order for the competition to just end already, and because it's already been done.

Paper Subcon has not been done before. Sure, a Paper Mario styled competition has before but it wasn't limited to a specific theme or game like this one is.

I still say this comp should be ended considering the only person who still wants to enter is someone who hasn't posted in months. I'm sorry, but everyone else is ready to move on

The idea was still done.
That's the only reason i didn't enter this comp. It's been done before. Just not confined to one game inparticular.

i just dont like paper mario style, but thats my own personal problem which shound and does not contribute to this argument.

ps: the reason I've personally been lagging with drawing comps lately is because I have CRAPLOADS of schoolwork so I barely have time to draw for fun. BUT NOW I HAVE SOME TIME SO I'LL FINISH MINE IN LIKE AN HOUR I PROMISE O_O *runs off to find her markers*

Alright, we'll end it March 1st as originally planned since now two or three people are working on something.

You did realise that mine was a joke. =/
