It's a file compression tool. Winzip creates files called "zip" files, which you put other files into, such as your game. These "zips" compress the files in them - they use different data storing techniques to make your game a smaller size.
It's kind of like if you had a giant hollow box made of legos that was 10 feet tall, see. That would be hard to carry around, right? Well, Winzip breaks that box down into, say, a backpack's worth of legos. A backpack full of legos IS easy to carry around, right? Then, when you open this "backpack", winzip builds your 10 foot box again out of these pieces.
