QUOTE (Kritter @ Mar 5 2004, 04:44 PM)
Bah humbug, you'll all get NO votes from me. I believe everyone is good at their own thing and don't need badges and awards to make them feel better, I also believe some awards won't be given to the right people, thus making them feel worse or inferior to whoever won it, and in turn, making the winner feel superior. It is also my belief that some awards will be based on mere popularity of the members rather than skill level, which makes these awards rigged in a way, it's like a popularity bribe. I do not believe in awarding ones skill with badges and medals of congratulations, I believe it makes someone feel much more pride to have people say how much they enjoy their work and to give positive feedback, rather than to have a possibly unjustified medal shoved down their possibly undeserving throat.

Exactly. Which is why categories such as "most underappreciated person" or "most overlooked game" won't work, and are essentially oxymorons.

Well I took PS's games as a base, never thought of it that way. We have had a lot of interesting and "Ah, I get it" nominations so far, and it'll look pretty interesting. Though a popular vote for "Most Overlooked ____" is kinda weird.
And Kritter, if you just wanna troll about everything, be. Our. Guest. Be our guest. Put your service etc. I don't want to give anything away, but it looks like you could win some awards. Keep up that attitude and I'll replace "Kritter" on the ballots with "Mr Happy Pants".

I disagree, a "best overlooked" catagory lets people think about things they might not have paid much attention to before. Even Nintendo Power magazine has a most overlooked category in their awards. Although it would help if we did have some nominations for those categories..

Way to kill the whole topic, Krit Krit.
Your pessimism reeks. Why CANT we have one of these? It's just some idea. If they whine about not winning, it's their problem

-.-

What do you mean some awards won't be given to the right people? Isn't it the voters' decisions just which people are the "right" people?

And WTF is a popularity bribe?

IE, Klobber's popular so he could get more votes.
Or Klobber could lull people into voting him. But I know Klobber doesnt do that.

Man, quit your whining, if you're allowed your opinions on who is best at what, i'm allowed to have mine on the whole topic. And Parakarry you fool, I never said you couldn't have one of these. I just said it was an award ceremony with major gaping flaws.

Grow up Shadowman, obviously i'm not the only one who thinks these things are flawed, I seem to recall a few people agreeing with me. And Parakarry, when it comes to patterns of annoyance, you're the master. You're like an unlockable character with three slow and predictable moves.

Yes, I know people agreed with you. Awards are still going though. And please, just take a chill pill/breath mint, you're getting nasty/your breath's bad.

Well, I still think it is meaningless and most awards will be based on what people see rather than know.

Take best spriter for example, people like Citrusponge will most likely be overlooked, due to the fact that they're not a really really active member of the community, and don't often show off what they do, but people like Fanguy and Dr. Wario show their work all the time. I have seen equally brilliant stuff from all three, and many more, but it'll be Fanguy and Dr. Wario getting the votes because they're better known in the community for it.

Or best reviewer, I can see Parakarry will probably win this based on the AMOUNT of reviews he's done, but that doesn't make him the best reviewer, it makes him the best review contributor.

And some of these awards are just stupidly obvious. Like "Most Absurd Game". Why even bother putting in such an award when you know exactly which game it will be awarded to? Technically, if that Waligie or whatever game wins, it shouldn't be counted, as it isn't a Mario fangame, and these ARE MFGG awards.

And who's to even say what the "best MFGGer" award will be based on? Everyones warped opinions all massing and coming together in a giant soup. I could list them all but you'd say that my opinion is trolling and that OMFG YOUR DUMB PESSIMISTIC NO ONE AGREES GO OFF AND DIE.

Well you haven't seen the ballot yet. There's been plenty of other votes for non-Waligie games in there. "Overlooked game" has gotten quite a few obscure results. I've gotten different results for "Funniest MFGGer" besides the predicatble. Some stuff was unanimous, but a lot of it was freaking divided. And the Oscars, SAG, and other awards aren't necessarily unbiased either, so that's something you have to live with when you have an award show.
Don't suddenly judge everything based on what you think, you gotta see the concrete material first.
