I think it's a good time to quote the awards:

Most absurd game: 4 different things nominated
Most original: 8 different things nominated
Best engine: 6 different things nominated
Best spriter: 6 different people nominated
Best artist: 6 different people nominated
Mr. Serious: Almost completely in favor of one person

We'll just wait and see the results, and I can bet nearly all of them will be the ones i'm thinking of. Freaking divided means nothing if the majority don't think before voting.

And you can't compare Oscars and other awards to things like this, I believe a small Australian short film beat Disney and Pixar for best short film in the recent awards, with a tiny budget and all filmed in a local storage room, because awards like that ARE based on who's best at what they do, not opinions.

This is true, you can hardly call a bunch of MFGGers voting for MFGG awards equal to the Academy of professional movie critics or whatever they're called voting on movies.

Well I'm not trying to compare the granduer, but the biasedness (word?). The Oscars aren't based entirely on "best". A lot of it is politics. For example, "what company owes what". Biased awards are everywhere, it's hard to get around it.

I'll just stop by saying everyone should just enjoy this, if someone doesnt win and complains about it, it's their problem.

(And I'm not gonna complain.)

Yes, it's true, we should just enjoy this.

Yes, it's true, the voting is somewhat flawed.

Well, whenever I watch things like that, there's a lot of the "little guys" winning awards based on true achievements and based on their actual talent in the field.

Obviously to win something like that, you need to be talented in the first place, and that short film beating Disney and Pixar for best short film just goes to prove my point. You can beat millions of dollars, tons of films and massive recording studios, with a short claymation, one film and a garage if you're good with awards like that. The two are uncomparable in both how biased they are, and how big they are.

Might be a reversed kind of biased, but the "Awards are biased" theme still sticks.
And Fanguy's right. Let's have pudding now.

I think the results at the end of this will just prove my point. When does it end?

I'll end voting next Monday, then to make it more fair, I'm gonna have 5 nominees (top 5 in each section) people can vote on for a final result.

Somehow I don't think that will make it any less fair for the underdogs, but... *sits and waits*

I still need to vote.

Don't bother, the results will be the same no matter how you try end the thing. Perhaps I will vote, based on *gasp* ACTUAL CLOSE OBSERVATION, TRUE TALENT, RESEARCH AND HARD THINKING!! Might not hurt some other people to do the same thing, instead of going OMFG KLOBBER IS TEH FUNNT HE WINS ALL MY VOTES (no offence intended, just using Klobber as an example).

No, you're right, I think it's safe to say that Klobber will win more than a few.

Well the reason I did the nominees was to give people who voted for someone who didn't vote for someone who was in the top 5 to vote again. If it worked like that in the US, we'd have Gore. Also, I have gotten some really different votes, nominating a lot of underdogs and non-popular votes.

And Fanguy's right.

This sux, it's impossible to vote in some of these categories i've just realised. Take best artist for example. Now lets see, Fanguy, Joey the Terrible, Dr. Wario, Retriever II, Klobber, Rage, Zeldafreak, the list goes on. How can you choose just one, when the range of art is so diverse? There's a crapload of awesome artists here, so categories like this are impossible to choose from.

That's a tough choice, but also consider that "Best Film" has a lot of different types of movies to consider for the title. Do you vote for a sci-fi? Romance? Horror? Comedy? It's not that different. I suppose you have to consider the best qualities of each artist, and how well each artists put their respective techniques to use. But what do I know, I'm no film critic. Or art critic for that matter.

Well, i'd choose someone like Klobber, Joey or Retriever II. Just as with movies, it would be based on time and effort spend on creating the piece, how original the art is, in terms of construction, general layout, colouring, and style...there's a lot of factors and even then I doubt I can choose one. Still, I can see people voting you or Klobber for art instead of someone like Retriever II, due to popularity and how many pieces of art of yours they've seen. Retriever II and Joey (and a lot of others) have some brilliant art, and original styles, but they don't show their stuff as often, so they're not as likely to stick in other people's heads.

That's pretty much how it was at this year's Oscars. *coughLOTRcough* =P

Good points all, and well made. I'm going to take some time this week before I choose MY picks, for one thing I'll try to look in the art board and places like that. For something like best artist I'd probably choose someone who demonstrates that they're good at drawing different things, someone with a unique style. Offhand, I'd say Kritter or someone like him would likely win my vote, since i've seen different styles from him and all are equally well-done. RII does some amazing background work as well, and CAN do characters when he puts his mind to it. And Joey's really good at all kinds of stuff, Matrix fancomics, random little characters with cool designs, poses and ideas, things of that nature, it's a tough choice.

And about me winning a lot, you never know, one of the side effects of all this is that people will MAYBE be less likely to vote for the expected winner, but that's just another flaw in contests like these (not trying to nitpick or anything, just pointing out the obvious, people who are popular usually win several awards, and by the same token people who are expected to win might not get as many votes because people don't want to do what they're expected to, they'll want to do the exact opposite a lot of times, and both of these aren't good reasons to vote for someone IMO).

Anyway, I've rambled on long enough, and even that just had to do with the art category, there's a lot of different things to vote for.
