QUOTE (Rage @ Mar 4 2004, 02:49 PM)
Most likely Photoshop. The tutorial I added for Sonic Battle CGing was made in Photoshop. Though he could of transfered it to PSP.

You can do exactly the same style as Kritter did in PSP, that's what I used to do mine, like this one, for instance.

It's funny how when new games come out they always get all the credit for these different CG drawing styles that already existed... If someone uses this kind of drawing technique, it's all of a sudden called "Sonic Battle" style now. Put a black outline around a sprite? It's now officially Mario & Luigi style.

That's pretty good, but some of the shading looks like it has curves, which isn't like the actual thing.

My point was that Sonic Battle style isn't a style of it's own. I wasn't trying to imitate Sonic Battle because Sonic Battle hadn't even been made when I did it.

Wow, that's awsome. You probably feel the same way about that style as I do about my splish-splashy background drawing =)

You do really well with that style, I really like it. Show us some more.

Actually, I did it in Paint Shop Pro, and I didn't follow that tutorial, the only part I followed was the "create a layer then do the outlines" part, which I hadn't thought of doing until now. The rest I just figured out on my own. The tutorial had too many useless steps to follow which were unnecessary.

Ah, then I can offer my useful (useless?) tips about PSP!

Tip #1: You can get a smoother curved-looking line for the shading effects if you play with the "feathering" for the point-to-point selection tool. I usually have the feathering set to 2. It creates a softer edge to the shade, making it appear more curved than if you simply leave antialias on by itself. But that may not go well with the point-to-point outlines of the style you're using, since I've only ever used feathering on coloring for hand-drawn art.

Yeah, I already knew that. At the moment i'm just drawing it rugged looking because I like the style, but later on down the line I might try some smoother lines and better shading.

Looks great!! Only thing that looks odd is the yellowish coloring at the top of his hat and the bottom-right of his robes.

EDIT: For the last time, it's not Sonic Battle style!! That style existed long before Sonic Battle did! Stop giving a game all the credit! sad.gif

Actually, that style IS Sonic Battle style, due to the way it looks, it has nothing to do with the way it's created. If the lines were done smoothly, but the pic was created in the same way, it wouldn't be thought of as Sonic Battle style.

Well you're right, Sonic Battle artwork is done in that style, but it's still doesn't seem right to call it "Sonic Battle Style" as if Sonic Battle created the style. Sonic Adventure Style is one thing, since it has such specific rules for the shading and highlights, but... Whatever, it's not really that important anyway. Great artwork, done in the same style that Sega also used in Sonic Battle. biggrin.gif

...Unfairness in the arts!! Stand up for style rights so artwork styles get the recognition they truly deserve, not some blue hedgehog taking all the credit! nod.gif nope.gif

You show me another piece of unrelated art done in that very style from head to toe, then i'll stop calling it Sonic Battle Style.

Remember all those "Cool" styled Mario drawings Zeldafreak did last year? He did them the exact same way, and they looked very similar to the drawings you and I did in the same style. Actually his looked even more like the Sonic Battle artwork, because not only were the outlines angled and sketchy-looking, but he also used Sonic Adventure shading techniques.

...You know, it didn't even occur to me to ask. Were you trying to imitate the Sonic Battle artwork?

The inspiration was from that style, but I doubt it's the same.
