"A source claiming the Nintendo Revolution will be graphically superior to it's main competitors, Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's XBOX 360, has surfaced. Details inside...

The website TechTree has reported that the Revolution will in fact be the most powerful of the ‘Big Three’ next generation consoles. Whilst Nintendo have yet to announce any official technical specifications, Sony and Microsoft have both announced full specifications and shown in-game footage. Could Nintendo be holding back a nice surprise?

According to Techtree, the Revolution will use four 2.5GHz PowerPC G5-class processors, currently under the codename ‘Broadway’. If this does turn out to be true, which is still highly doubtful, it would make the Revolution slightly ahead of the PS3 and way ahead of the XBOX 360 in terms of raw power. None of this has been confirmed or reputed by Nintendo.

As Techtree.com report:
“It seems in this war of new consoles the only clear profit-maker is IBM. IBM has made the PowerPC-based core(s) for the Xbox 360, the Cell processor for Sony in conjunction with Sony and Toshiba, and also the Power-PC G5 based processor(s) for the Nintendo Revolution. Not one, but four! Yes, apparently the Revolution will feature FOUR 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5-class processors, codenamed "Broadway", and a graphics processor by ATI, codenamed "Hollywood", the dual-core RN520, with 16MB of frame buffer DRAM. Technically, this makes the Revolution a bit more powerful (2.5 x 4 > 3.2 x 3, 16 > 10). The Revolution also features 512 MB of memory.”

It is worth noting that Techtree were the first website to find out the real technical specifications for the Nintendo Gamecube in the months running up to its release.

Another interesting bit of information is that a patent has recently been registered for a “video game playing method comprising: loading a pre-determined environment-mapped image having multiple planar projected images and associated multiple depth map images; at least in part in response to real-time interactive user input, compositing at least one additional object into said mapped images, said compositing using said depth map to selectively render at least portions of said object into said mapped image to provide a composited mapped image; and panoramically rendering said composited mapped image using a desired viewing angle and frustum to provide interactive video game play.” The patent, registered in America is attributed to “Nintendo Co., Ltd.” A copy of the patent can be found HERE.

What this effectively means, in simple English, is that the Revolution would be capable of creating parts of almost CGI-quality graphics, akin to the special effects you see in films."

*Crosses fingers*

This is sweet, since nintendo has been on the lower end in terms of power (but on the higher end of fun, in my opinion) Nintendo fans will have something to brag about this time also.

And hopefully this will still be the most cost-easy of all systems..

Nintendo really IS pulling through with this one =)

This is the source...

That site has no evidence to support it claims, so I have no reason to believe it. I could start a website and post something like that and people would still accept it as the truth.
I forget this guy's name, but there was a practical joker who would periodically call up CNN and tell them new "inventions" he made, as well as a fake name. CNN, the next day, would report the story as being true without verifiying it.
I really don't trust anything that doesn't have proof of its claims.

I gotta find the article. They had a whole page about him on Wikipedia. One of things he did was create an "automatic jury machine" in which data was inputted and a result came out. He got about 20 people to set up a fake laboratory, and CNN actually came.
EDIT: Found it. Joey Skaggs.
QUOTE
In 1995 CNN devoted a segment to Mr. Bonuso and his Solomon Project, a legal supercomputer which supposedly would render the need for juries obsolete. Only after the segment aired did CNN discover that Bonuso was really Joey Skaggs, prankster extraordinaire, and the Solomon Project was his latest leg-pull.

Well actually I've heard the rumor of the reolvuion having quad procs before, but of course it was just from my cousin telling me it was a rampant rumor, so no hard evidence.. still, imagine that though..

Exactly what I was thinking, and we know Nintendo's systems are always cheaper than every one else's.

You would think that...

People thought Nintendo DS's double LCD screens would be expensive to manufacture, which they are, but the system costed less then their prime competitors.

I don't know, though. All I'm saying is that Nintendo is the grandfather of the gaming industry, and they know what they are doing.

No.

It would drive up the price. An extra LCD screen is nothing compared to the bits and pieces that make up the system itself. And Nintendo has announced that their goal is to manufacture an affordable system that is fun to play AND cheap to develop for.

It'd probably be like the HT technology that some P4's have.

Except it would be HYPERTHREADING2

Nintendo has never launched with the least powerful console. I will guarantee Revolution will have more power than the Xbox 360, but I will not promise it being stronger than the PS3, as Nintendo executives have said outright that they aren't going for horsepower, not just that "it isn't about horsepower" but that they won't be gunning for the highest possible specs. They want a tiny, quiet, fast loading platform. You can expect fast disc reading technology and more than adequate hardware specs; but I'm afraid anyone saying Revolution will even come close to the PS3's stats just have their head in the wrong place.

It won't make it, and it really doesn't matter anyway.

everything I've heard and read about has said that PS3 is going to be much more powerful than Xbox and the revolution anyway.

And it wouldn't matter to me one way or the other. PS2 and Gamecube are both awesome. So I expect the same out of their next systems.
