| QUOTE (Klobber @ Mar 15 2004, 10:52 PM) | For the record, I see EXACTLY where Kritter is coming from and I think some other people should too. Particularly with the artist thing, that's kinda hard to judge because there are so many different styles. I like Jhonen Vasquez's style, but I hate people who constantly imitate it. Art is weird like that. Art's always in the eye of the beholder, so truth be told there can never be a "best" artist.
Two people could draw something to represent an emotion such as love. One person might use all sorts of colors, draw photorealistically, and make a jaw-dropping piece of art. Another person could spend 5 minutes on a drawing and convey it better. So in that way it's hard to choose.
If I spent three years drawing an orange to represent love, and made the orange the most perfect orange you ever did see, and then a 5 year old came along and drew two stick figures holding hands with rainbows in the background, he would've conveyed the art better than I did. Even though the orange might be so realistic you could taste it.
Anyway, that's just with art. My point is I believe there are some categories where you cannot be the best in, by the very nature of the topic in question.
The awards can be fine, if used in the right way. I can see that, to a degree. I'm not going to go the "they might win and not deserve it" route, I'm going to go the "What if everyone deserves it?" There wouldn't be a right for one person to hold such a title.
Anyway, that's just my two cents. Don't think I'm losing sleep over this. Also, don't think that if I DO win any awards I'm going to even aknowledge winning them. I don't mean that to seem unthankful (and I'm not saying I did win anything, I'm just using myself as an example). Anything I personally win, if indeed I did win anything, will be kept to the topic and not bragged about the forum, I'd recommend everyone who wins any category does the same thing. Winning an award is all well and good, but don't act like an asshole, and remember that these awards mean nothing compared to what you do. You know what you're capable of, if someone wins an award and you think you deserved it more, then damn it, you probably do deserve it more.
So yeah. Awards, all well and good, but just don't take them seriously, and remember that the awards process itself is flawed like everything else in this world of ours. |
Thank you for at least being reasonable. And I agree with what you said in that last sentence. You can't do an award thing without being biased.

| QUOTE (SonicProject @ Mar 16 2004, 03:05 AM) | Kritter deserves the Unsung Hero award in my opinion. No, Willy really doesn't deserve that because people give him appreciation for the most part.
EDIT: And no, I'm not sucking up. I'm being honest. Without Kritter, there wouldn't have been a forum. Without the forum, there wouldn't have been a place for visitors to suggest and discuss things related to the site which probably would of meant no PHP upload system. MFGG might not have continued to exist either. It would have faded away without the forum. |
Well, I was okay with this topic until that was mentioned. Now I really don't feel like being a particpant in this rant, so please take me out of any nominational catagories. In all your opinions, I don't deserve anything. So, I hope someone else can enjoy my place in those catagories, because frankly, I don't care if I win or not.

He didn't mean it like I think you thought he did. What he MEANT was that the unsung hero category is meant for people who don't get the recognition they deserve, whereas you DO get that.

He means Kritter is underappreciated (and he is, very), while we are extremely thankful for you paying for the site and we acknowledge that.

It was a difficult thing to notice later on though, what I thought was going to be the outcome of me paying for the site, was totally different then what happened. As long as you guys are enjoying the site's return, though. That was my purpose.

Huh? By that logic, nobody gets Unsung Hero, unless I just don't understand what you mean.
|
Don't think too hard on it. In fact, don't even bother with what I say, it could make your head explode. =P

I know, sorry. Yesterday, I was a little angry since my computer shut down, everything seemed to be building up on my nerves. I didn't really take the time to understand what you said, nor' did I understand the term "Unsung Hero". So, sorry for any disruptions.
