An AO rating for San Andreas would be the equivalent of a parental advisory sticker on a rap album.

Except where I live, I buy rap CDs with the warning sticker on and they don't care.

Why rate a gane AO based on stuff that is not accessable in actual game play but requires hacking to get to and was never meant to get out after they figured they'd get an AO if it was kept?

Because negligent parents are paranoid when it comes to ratings.

and i wouldnt if it werent for the fact the ESRB is making a big deal about this =D

That's why all the parents complaining and such ultimately led to what they were complaining about becoming a problem.

When the ESRB rates it, they're supposed to be shown the worst of the worst of the stuff in the game. Obviously, Rockstar never showed them the "mini-games", so that's violating their policy.

I'm not talking about it restricting the amount of people who can buy, I'm saying it will pretty much be like a huge banner saying "THIS GAME HAS NAUGHTY STUFF BUY IT!" If Rockstar is smart, they'll make the rating really huge on the packaging.

In this case, yes; but AO games usually aren't carried at retail stores, and it's very possible that the anger from said rating change could trigger Wal-Mart and the like dropping it. While they usually claim this is for ethical reasons, we may get to see for the first time what is more important... one of the best selling video games of this generation, or the "risks" involved with putting the same damn game on the shelves (GASPPPPpppp it says AO instead of M).

I don't know what to expect, Wal-Mart didn't even have this game on the shelves for a few weeks, they hid it under the counter and you had to ask for it. I went to several stores thinking they were out for that whole time.

You may recall when BMX XXX was coming out, that there was a lot of noise really quickly out of nowhere about the lewd nature of the game, Sony required their game to be censored, and while Nintendo left theirs alone; many retailers said outright they wouldn't sell it if it wasn't a censored version (I believe one of these was Best Buy).

All I can say is, download the install for "Hot Coffee", and clutch your M-rated games tight. It may become very very hard to find either of those quite soon, and the novelty is priceless

Someguy: Accessible to the average player or not, the content is on the disc; and that is where the violation comes in, not every player beats a game the whole way through either, some violent scenes later in Metal Gear, Resident Evil, and the like are never seen by their players; the ESRB cannot assume that the player will not stumble upon the worst moments, that's why they have the system Shadowman described (you can read about it on their website in more detail). They're shown a video essentially with the worst parts of the game lined up, "related" material in otherwords that would help it to gain its ranking. And while it isn't the case as much on disc-based consoles, computer games and cartridge based platforms can tend to be open enough for you to discover all sorts of things... for instance, look at all the neat crap you can do in Ocarina of Time by pulling your cartridge partially out of the connectors in your N64. This isn't something limited to OOT, the only reason you can read about it so easily is the game's popularity.

It's not like this'll effect the PS2 or Xbox version...

The ESRB is stupid. They go 2 hours into Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and give the game a warning for use of the word "hell", yet they can't sit through DK64's 5 minute Rap intro.

Here's somthing else:

One day I was in Wal-Mart. On the way out, I saw a poster advertizing SADX. Suprizingly, It said "rated T" (I later found it was a misprint). The first thing I though was:

"Why am I not suprized".

Oh, and yeah gameplay is repetitive, but I think KH:COM was a GOOD game Draco.

KH:COM was fun, just wasn't overly deep, and it lacked a story, the story had to work-around the things they didn't want to ruin for KH2... it felt very tacked on; but nevertheless I liked its simplicity.

Now onto cool Zelda stuff (Cloakbass, ask those that claim to be my brothers for the video, I can't get to it right now).

((NOTE: While this has never erased my save files, you do run the risk of pulling out your cartridge at particularly inappropiate moments and ruining your save files... so.... DON'T SAVE when your cartridge is half-ass removed. It shouldn't damage your console either, unlike the SNES, the cartridge doesn't lock into place in the unit))

One such thing you can access, is ... right in the beginning of the game! You know how Mido won't let you leave Kokiri Forest until afterrrr you beat the Forest Dungeon?

KEIN PROBLEM

Lift the right side of your cartridge out just a little bit out of the slot (I can't get exact measurements, give it a day or so and maybe I can provide, but this is really simple to do).

Basically, only move it barely while you run around Mido... eventually he will not be able to track you for some ghastly reason... you can walk right on past him and out into a world that isn't quite ready for you yet. I believe Kaepora Gaebora won't even come after you haha. Other such things you can access include a debug screen (instructions are to be found randomly along the net, but basically there's nothing of use to the average player, just random memory locations being displayed on screen and maybe the occassional unused sound effect).

It will take some memory jogging but I do believe there are certain tricks you can do with the cartridge removed that will allow you to venture into the Gerudo fortress as a kid, something that while obtainable with gameshark; is something not within everyone's reach, especially since you can't get your gameshark updated anymore.

I promise when I get home, I'll have videos and stuff laugh3.gif
