When I sat down to this movie, I'll be honest with you, I expected a let-down. I really don't remember the 1971 version since last time I saw it was almost 7 years ago. The intro was actually pretty interesting. While Charlie's condition financially is very stretched, Tim Burton again shows us a world of his imagination. This is indeed not a remake of the Gene Wilder version but instead someone else's take on it. The special effects were jaw dropping and everything was put together perfectly, honestly I saw no flaws. Jonny Depp was not my first choice as Willy Wonka but amazingly he pulled it off quite well. This one IS a bit darker then the 1971 film but somehow felt the same. I think the kids were just a little too "braty" and the way they acted (Not Charlie of course) was a bit too strected. An interesting fact I learned was that the Narrator of this movie was none other then Baron Samedi from Live and Let Die. All in all this is a film that might be intended as a family film it didn't really feel like one. It's not scary but it might be a little frightning to some younger viewers. The only thing I didn't like besides some of the kids stretched attitudes was the ending or what leaded up to it. It just was really slow and "Okay, end the movie or add a twist please."

8.5/10

which means 9/10

From what I heard, the guys working on the movie weren't allowed to watch the original one, so it's mostly based off of the book instead.

My friend invited me to go see it with her yesterday. I turned it down.
It, of course, wasn't because of the movie, I was just moody.

If I had gone see this, I'd be lost. I've never read the book, or seen the 1971 movie. My friend'll probably talk about it for a while.
She thought this would be an awesome movie. Well, I'll just have to wait till she calls to ask how it was.

I'd like to see it, but I'm not hoping to see it anytime soon.

That part where she gets all big is probably the most scary in then whole movie.

Herbie wasn't a remake. They just dug him up and made a new movie with him.

What the hell, it's a sequel? That's even stupider than having it be a remake.
