BungaloX: why
Maruigi: well
Maruigi: I'll tell you
Maruigi: my computer was being a jack ass and wouldn't start
BungaloX: that sucks
Maruigi: after 25 tries it finally worked
Maruigi: I looked around the web for info on it
Maruigi: and foudn one saying it was my boot.ini
Maruigi: so I look at the default
Maruigi: copy paste
Maruigi: and then
Maruigi: my computer crashes
Maruigi: it wont turn back on
Maruigi: and the times that it does it freezes in start-up
Maruigi: in short:
Maruigi: my computer blew up and I'm now using my brothers computer (which I can't install anything on)
BungaloX: Dont take advice from idiots
Maruigi: so like
Maruigi: you're calling microsoft idiots
Maruigi: XP

I dunno much on it yet. I'm not a computer wiz. All I know is that my computer 'exploded'.

Hmm...
Oh god I had something similar happen to me. It's the boot sector. It is so damned easy to f*** up in Windows XP. So I reccomend getting an external HD to back your files up onto, use your XP install disc and boot with it to get into a DOS-ish environment, back up all your critical files onto the external HD, then format and reinstall.

There IS a way to fix the boot sector but it's too complicated for me to even remember and messing up can worsen the situation.

"Freezes on start up" whoops missed that. Ya, no matter what it is fromatting tends to work. Unless you get some scenario like my old computer where the BIOS mess up and it won't scan any CDs in either drives or even floppy disks basically preventing any chance of formatting O_o.

Then you reset the BIOS.
  • Open the computer up
  • Find a set of pins on the motherboard with a black piece of plastic is over a few pins.
  • REMEMBER WHERE THE PLASTIC PIECES WENT!!
  • Take off the plastic pieces then put them back in
  • Close up computer and power it up. Your BIOS is now reset to factory defaults
If that doesn't work, I suggest you turn that thing into a boat anchor or a door stop.

A fdriend of mine fixed it up and, to quote Strong Bad, "Ah, the old girl is working again."

So yeah, it's fixed, a little slower then usual maybe, but it's fixed.

1) Jumpers can be any color.
2) There's usually more than one.

A better way is to find the battery on the motherboard and remove it for a couple of minutes
