When Donkey Kong Universe made a preview for E3 2005, they mentioned this game for Nintendo DS:
QUOTE
2. Mario Mahjong
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Nintendo
This game will probably never see the light of day outside of Japan, but you never know, so we're including it on our list. It's a cameo game centering around the tile-switching Japanese craze known as "Mahjong," and it has both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong in it as playable characters. The Diddy Kong factor alone makes me wish it would come out to North American, European, African, and Australian shores.
I've never seen any media of this game. Does it have a storyline like DDR Mario Mix or the Mario Party games? Maybe we should hold a petition to release it in the US.

I've played more than several shareware Mahjong games and no two of them had the same rules =/

It's Mahjong with Mario, that was a launch game for the DS.

a stack of blocks and you take off two matching blocks that can be slid off the tower without knocking off other ones.

Hmm, let me guess what those bottom greyed out characters are:

-Toadsworth
-Wario
-Waluigi
-Petey Piranha
-Bowser

They really need to bring this game to America.

Not even a stack. A pile that's only ordered in one way; every block is actually right-side-up.

You click two blocks that are both:

1. Unobstructed on two opposite sides

EDIT: Unsure exactly of the side requirement, Mahjong has always been a bit unclear on that

2. Do not have any blocks on top of them
2. A pair

And they are removed. Continue this until there are no blocks left.

Obstructions only count on the left or right. Obstructions above and below are negligible.

But yeah Draco that's pretty much Mahjong in a nutshell. You keep playing until all blocks are gone or you can't make any more pairs. Some versions (like the Hoyle Puzzle Games version) allow you to shuffle the tiles and try again after you got al possible matches, with a penalty of sorts.
