Want to program for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, but aren't sure where to start? Jonathan Harbour's Programming the Nintendo Game Boy Advance was to be published, but legal issues with Nintendo resulted in a cancellation of the book's release. Fortunately, the book is now available online as a free e-book!

This book is good for beginners who are interested in programming for gaming handhelds. Starting with the basics and progressing from there, this book can guide even those with minimal programming experience. Although it won't tell you how to program an epic RPG, by following the exercises in the book, you can make smaller games to play on your GBA flash card or via the multiboot cable, discussed in the e-book. If you're a big fan of handhelds, the pride in seeing your own game play on an actual Game Boy Advance makes it all worthwhile!

The book references HAM as their devkit of choice. HAM is free, but a flash card with a multiboot cable is not. Additionally, you can download the source code and other reference files for the book, but Mr. Harbour asks for a small donation in return. Fortunately, both a flash card and the reference files are optional! If you are not ready to make an investment in a flash card and the resource files, you can still read the book for free and decide if it's worth further investment. I recommend this e-book to beginners who are interested specifically in programming for handheld gaming systems.

for those who can't read it..

Umm, "yay"?
