Bacon's old Petey Piranha sprite sheet, Something interesting behind it.

I'd post this on one of Pixeltendo's spriting forums, but I am unable to post there due to the system thinking I have already registered there when I'm actually not.

Now, remember Bacon's old Petey Piranha sprite sheet? I believe it's still on MFGG. Anyway, I was looking through GameSpot's collection of Super Mario Sunshine screenshots, and I found this peculiar screenshot of the first Petey Piranha fight:



I just looked at Petey himself and he reminded me of Bacon's old sprites for him. All he did was retrace most of the sprite from the screenshot and went on from there. I've put them up side by side for your connviance.

and it IS bacon's

He put the targeting reticle on Petey's neck. XD

Heh, i've done that some times with pics, i did it once with Rawkhawk, but i never enterd it in the comp because i didn't consider it to be fair ^^;

Except tracing the reticule, which gives Petey a tracheatomy.

It's the camera reticule.

In my eyes Bacon did nothing wrong. I feel if I ever traced over a picture to make a sprite, it'd come out really weird and I'd be unable to do anything with it. However, Bacon obviously did more than trace (even if he did include the crossair). Petey's leaves are in a more standard postition, as Bacon realized that it'd probably be unhandy to put them in the position they were in the picture. Also, his shading was obviously his own call, and I'm sure all the aspects you have to take into doing this makes it just as hard as drawing an original sprite.

You mean he couldn't of done anything, but trace it? He couldn't have simply been looking at it? I could post it on PT if you'd like... :O

Personally I wouldn't considerthat stealing, since people trace outlines of screenshots to make pixelart. I'm sure most of us had done that before.

And PT is down right now, so don't bother.
