Quite a few games have been submitted that were built with the djrellik's SMB3 engine. This means that these games all share an identical engine, system, and other things common to the tool.

Me and Klobber have decided that it is ok for people to submit these games to the main site, as long as two criteria are met.
  • Don't use the original levels that were included in the original program, for goodness sakes make your own.
  • Give credit to djrellik somewhere in the game for the engine, because the engine was not your work.

SM did say that around the year that one of the Doom games was released, there were countless games made with that game's engine. So as long as these fangames aren't steals of the original game, they are ok.

Well Djrelick made it pretty clear that he wanted credit for his engine.

Yes. It should be common sense.

And like I told you on AIM, most people would make their own engine, but if they do use his, obviously they would know to not just upload the engine itself and claim as their own...should be common sense.

This ... really is common sense.

He released his engine for use, so it's perfectly okay for others to use it for their games and submit them to the site, according to his terms (Give credit and don't take the package and do nothing more than slap your name on it).

Well since Klobber and I were talking about it recently, I thought it would be a good idea to say. :\

There was at least one submission that didn't give credit.
