What would Mario and friends be like..., ..If Gamecube-quality gaming came FIRST?

Okay, so kids, I was reading on the NES Classics website that Mario was given a hat because they had no pixel-space for his hair, and he was given overalls so you could see his arms apart from the rest of his body, and his moustache was put there so you could see his nose apart from his mouth! So kids, if there never was any video games up to the current generation, and this was all around in the early eighties/late seventies, how much do you think this could affect the design of everything? And if that **** was around in the eighties, what would we be capable of now?
