QUOTE (NES Boy @ Aug 8 2005, 07:08 PM)
Maybe to make up for the possible lack of backward compatibility, Nintendo will bring back the Japan-only Game Boy Light, upgrade it to be compatible with Game Boy Color games, and ship it to the US.

YES

The Game Boy is like every system. It has its share of crap games, along with the classics.

Keep in mind the fact that even Link's Awakening was horrid, solely because every song in that game was a ten-second ear-raping looped over and over.

*skips majority of topic*

I wasn't going to get a Micro, anyway. Who the hell needs a Game Boy that small? I'm not a f***ing Smurf, I can handle an SP.

The music was bad, and fairly repetitive in Link's Awakening, but did you like the gameplay?
And did you like other classics, like Super Mario Land 2, Wario Land, Donkey Kong Land, Donkey Kong 94',Metroid 2, etc.

Hey, to HADES with the lot of you who didn't like Link's Awakening soundtrack. FOOLS OF TOOKS, I love 8-bit music.

FOOOOLS!

I'll admit the frog's song was ear grating though.

the component to play older games would add an extra ounce; this will simply not do.

Who wants a micro anyways? Does it have anything that the GBA SP doesn't?

Well, at least the GB Pocket offered visuals that were a bit crisper than the normal Gameboy.

If you'll do some research on it, there's an article that says the screen presents more vivid displays than on previous versions.

Great. Now if only it could play old games, it might not totally suck.

It's good that it has crisper visuals, but it's not enough to talk me into buying one. Even if it could play the older games, I'd still not buy one - it's pretty useless either way, the GBASP serves the purpose of satisfying the "image conscious" consumer well enough if you ask me.

It's just...a pointless system. The GBASP can do everything it can, and MORE, plus it looks like a bloody cell phone - if people still think it looks geeky to be toting one around, they're probably image conscious to the point where they won't want to tote a GB Micro around either.

QUOTE
To the Nintendo representative that receives this (or perhaps Greg Hamilton himself):

A friend of mine has e-mailed you earlier about the backward compatibility of this system.  He received a response from Greg Hamilton (or I suppose you yourself if you're answer it) that stated the Game Boy Micro will not play old Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles.

I hope this was merely a misconception of the product's abilities, because the press releases that Mr. Hamilton linked to state this fact very clearly:

"It weighs an astonishing 2.8 ounces, yet Game Boy Micro has the same processing power and plays the same games as Game Boy Advance SP models."

If it has the same processing power and indeed can play the same games, why would it exclude old Game Boy titles?  I can understand that these may require a chipset that expands the Game Boy micro past the desirable portability you're aiming for, but that "technical specification" would be flat out lying about the system's capabilities.  Please consider a revision of the articles or perhaps a revision of the system itself.

Sincerely,
Christopher Wilson

Here's hoping I get a significant reply.

The guts to play old GB( C) games are different from GBA's. The GBA and SP contain both. The DS has only the GBA bits plus its own stuff. Maybe the Micro has only the GBA innards to keep costs and size down.

This has been stated as being the most likely case, but that doesn't mean Nintendo can go around flaunting its ability to play "same games as the GBASP" when the GBASP can in fact play Gameboy and Gameboy Color titles.

The "same games as the GBASP" doesn't necessarily mean all the games the SP can play. Could just mean 2 of them :o That'd be stupid though.

I think they'd use a phrase like "similar games as the GBASP" if they wanted to express that. Literally speaking, if something is the "same" in one aspect it should be exactly alike. While I agree with you and they could be using the word loosely, it's still very misleading considering the professional context.
