The fact that Nintendo recovered after the N64 is good enough for me. Sega failied to recover properly after the Saturn, and had to stop making consoles altogether. Nintendo may have been beaten by the PS1/PS2, but they're holding in there stronger than Microsoft. The revolution will be fine, even the downloadable games makes it already better than the PS3/Xbox360 at this time.

Totally agree with Nightwing and Black Squirrel.

Nintendo is very hard to be knocked out.
Even if US and Europe lose interest on Nintendo, Japan will always buy Nintendo stuff. They're crazy and very "childish" but that's exactly what I like in them ^^

I'm not all together saying Nintendo will fail someday soon. Basically I'm saying I see Nintendo as a hollow image of what they once were. I wouldn't mind if they refrained from gimmicks.

Given the innovations we've seen this generation alone with GBA/GCN interactivity, multiplayer and more numerous Zelda titles than ever, a respect for multiple art styles in all their games (think Metroid Zero Mission/Prime, or Wind Waker to Twilight Princess), game backwards compatibility now as a focal point on both portable and home console units, the expansion of the gaming market with the Nintendo DS (to girls especially, a market so sadly unexplored by games outside of X Tycoon or the Sims), the most challenging Mario game in a long time with Sunshine, and the generally prolific nature of Nintendo characters in video games (Mario Baseball, soccer, DDR, Party, several Kirby/Metroid/Zelda/Donkey Kong/Pokemon games). Nintendo is putting out more gold than ever, through distributing their licenses to trustworthy developers we've seen Nintendo branch out into the gimmicky, sure (music games). But I'll be damned if I feel Nintendo has somehow lost their touch, most people get how brilliant Wind Waker is, what that sword system does for the game; how important it is to have your system's online free, and that ultimately, when you're at a party, no one is going to turn down a round of Mario Party because they saw that Twisted Metal was also available. Games are about fun and Nintendo is about keeping that coming to its patrons.

...I can't really argue with that.

Nightwing appears to have caught this topic right into a Master Ball.

Well I just think people are too easily brainwashed by the editorializing that's so prevalent on major game sites, Nintendo isn't in any trouble, and they aren't in a downward spiral, it's a great time to be a Nintendo fan; soon all our favorite franchises will be online, and at no charge.

Now I belive Nintendo is not spiraling down. Even with these gimmicky games, they just want to use the touch-screen to appeal to gamers. Later on they won't make as much touch-screen based games; like Mario Kart DS which doesn't look like will be a Touch-screen type game.
