While I like Nintendo DS better, I don't have PSP, so I can't really judge it. I used to be a hopeless Nintendo fanboy... Until I realized... PS2 was getting Kingdom Hearts and GC wasn't. Like Kaepora said, the DS and the PSP are meant to appeal to different audiences. The only reason I don't get PS2 or PSP now is no longer because of fanboyism, but because there just aren't a lot of games on Sony systems that appeal to me. As good as Kingdom Hearts is and as much as I want it, getting a PS2 for one game=foolishness. I'm not saying the other PS2 games aren't good either, they just don't appeal to me. Frankly I don't know that much about Sony's library of games, so I can't judge the games I haven't played. I'm not gonna go all fanboyish and say some crap like "PS2 and PSP are for violence freaks", because if Sony has a clearly not-gorey game like Kingdom Hearts then there are probably others too, I just haven't taken the time to look into them. What is my point here? My point is, I can see this thread turning into a flamewar between DS fans and PSP fans before long. The only reason I voted for DS wasn't because I think its better than the PSP (I've seen the PSP and I have to admit its pretty sweet-looking), but simply because I like it better. So yeah... Please don't turn this into a flamewar. This topic probably shouldn't have started in the first place.

If this really is your point, I'll just address it real quick.

Thanks for the clairvoyance, but this topic doesn't seem to be a "flame war" yet, and I think you should give us a little more respect than any GameFAQs thread on a similar matter.

If the conversation can continue without flames, there's no need to try to doom it before hand.

If you're lucky, apparently you can score a DS for 109.99 at Game Rush due to a glitch in their system switching used and new prices.

Just something I thought of when you said that. biggrin.gif

You could get lucky. Let's say you got the bundle, but there was a dead pixel. When you send your DS in for a replacement to Nintendo, just ask for a silver one instead.

But then again, I just realized that maybe Nintendo actually DOES repair the screen, rather than just giving a new DS.

I only know Game Rush's used price, which is 109.99 when the glitch isn't present.

Because the PSP also functions as a media player and has the ability to download emulators to play illegal games, its users don't care about the crappy lineup of GAMES it actually officially has.

Of course. I'd assume being able to choose from a very large assortment of emulated games and other programs (like a PC emulator for the PSP XD) would be quite a good reason.

It's definitely a valid reason. But sometimes I wonder how portable this media player really ends up being if the battery life really is as short as claimed.

In other words, for anyone who has personal experience with both the PSP and homebrew, how does the battery situation seem to you?

QUOTE (Nintendwarf @ Aug 22 2005, 01:08 AM)
...?

Games have to be useful now?

Because the PSP also functions as a media player and has the ability to download emulators to play illegal games, its users don't care about the crappy lineup of GAMES it actually officially has. Appealing mainly to sports fans and only a few upcoming titles to look forward to. But hey, whatever you like.

These handhelds are so different and have such different goals... I can't understand why people keep putting these polls up all over the internet. The PS2 and XBOX are similar in features, that's why everybody compares them. But I just don't see what is to compare here.

USE as in I use it more then my DS.

And I for one like most of the PSP games more then the DS's thus far.

DS:
Wario Ware was too short, as was Feel the Magic. Yoshi touch and go was....
well not all that great. Goldeneye sucks. And I haven't tried Kirby yet.

PSP:
Untold legends: B.O.B. Good game, alittle cut around the edges, but still fun.
I just tried Lumines today, and I found it pretty good.
Ape escape...a classic. Good game.
Dark Stalkers. I hate the controls, but I suppose it would be fun if your into that kinda thing. Not really my taste.

Emus, videos, etc are all nice too. But if it was just down to official things, I think I would still pick the psp.

What it comes down to is if I was to get a game for the sake of getting a game, I would pick a psp one..unless something special like a Mario game came out.

I'm really hoping we get some great domestic releases soon. There are some FANTASTIC Nintendo DS games, but they're all imports right now.

You have Trauma Center, Goemon, Jump Superstars, Famicom Wars (which is almost domestic), and Bleach (which isn't even out in Japan, but it looks fantastic.)

I do know there's some good domestic games coming down the pipes though (a guilty pleasure being Supersonic Warriors 2,) so here's hoping that games like Nintendogs, Animal Crossing, and Mario Kart change the tides.

DS, because it has more games I want coming out. I only have a DS.

List time!

DS:
New Super Mario Bros.
Advance Wars DS
Kirby DS
Mario Kart
Meteos
Mario and Luigi
Viewtiful Joe
extras: GBA games (yay)
Picto-chat (pointless but fun for doodling)

PSP:
Daxter
Infected
um...
extras: ROMs (Appealing, yes... I'll have to wait for the new firmware to be hacked... I don't wanna mod my console or anything... I'll need a nice big fat Memory stick but by Hades, those buggers are expensive... oh sod it)
Mp3s (nice, but hmm, they'll take up memory card space >:/ )
Movies (lol no)
Other media (omg you can change the background :Oooo mmm portable pron)

Maybe I'll just get one of those Play Yan thangs. Cheaper :D

The psp looks appealing and enjoyable, same to the DS. The DS has a touch screen and has great games. The psp has great graphics, but the games don't look appealing to me.

It's hard to choose, but right now I'd say DS.

I don't own either a DS or a PSP, but I'm going to have to say DS. No games on the PSP appeal to me, and if I wanted emulators, I would get them for the PC. The PSP looks nicer, but it just doesn't seem to look like a handheld console, more like a mp3 player with loads of extra features.

I think both of them absolutely suck, but I'd prefer a PSP to a DS because you can play ROMs on it.

I saw and breifly played a PSP the other day and I have to admit, it actually does look pretty good and handles quite nicely but I think that it's battery life could be its downfall! My 8 year old sister is getting one and I suppose she's going to try and convince one of us to get GTA:LCS for her!

I'd prefer a DS, more out of fanboyism than anything else plus I don't really like the playstation range either, like come on, I KNOW what they are up to when they intend using blue - ray discs in the PS3, it will make multi - platform games a nightmare to make and hence many developers will choose to support PS3 only
( Yes, I know, I went a bit off - topic but I don't intend starting a flamewar )

I like Neither to tell the truth. DS's Double Screen greatly disturbs me and PSP is... just PSP.
