I remember a long time ago before I joined the fourms on the old Ez-bread, that I read the Cave of Flames as an example of what NOT to do. I just don't think that the rules are enough since they are not widely read by most new people. Also, I think it's fun reading past flamewars that I've missed out on.

Want to know what not to do? Just read the rules. It's not hard to understand. Allowing people to read flamewars for fun isn't necessary really.

It's not like it's UNnecessary either.
I say bring it back.
A lot of the topics are fun to read.

Though this topic is pretty pointless. They won't bring it back.

The topics may be fun to read but there are also topics in there where member a got very offensive toward member b and other members followed suit. Then we start seeing topics continuing those topics in the PPP.

The CoF has completely manifested itself into a different form that isn't viewable to the public anymore. Think of it as the "admin dumping grounds".

Hmm... I'm indifferent, but also realistic. It's not going to be brought back, as was clearly stated earlier in the topic. I bet it will still get replies though.

I would not necessarily oppose bringing it back for the following reasons:

1.) It would cut back on the "What happened to so-and-so/what did I miss?" topics, which almost always pop up after a major flamewar

2.) When I lock a topic, since the CoF isn't viewable, I have to leave the topic in the PPP or wherever for a few minutes if I said something important, so I can be sure that people see it. So most flamewars get read anyway

3.) Might be a good example of what not to do, who knows, maybe someone would listen

The only problem with bringing it back is because, like SM said, it's become the admin dumping ground. Sometimes the posts in there are completely illegible because they aren't even entire posts - I'll split a topic, cleaning it of the flames, and put the split posts in there, then I'm too lazy to give it a proper name, so we have several topics in there that are just titled "kdjfsjk"

Doesn't mean there couldn't be a "new" CoF for more... CoF-y posts

Then you could just keep the old one for the dumping grounds

Leave it hidden.
If it's a dumping grounds now, then you'd have a forum that's the equivalent of a landfill that's locked from posting

People read the CoF for fun. Examples? Not really. Encouragement? Perhaps. It's like some kid seing somebody else doing something and seeing how far they themselves can go without getting in trouble. And the label of kid is not too far off on a lot of members here.

I've read it when it was up, so I could catch up on stuff that I've missed, so I didn't make the same mistake. It's also very fun to me seeing people argue.

When it was viewable to the public I used to read it just to find out what went on while I was gone.. of course, like SM said now it's the dumping ground so we'd probably have to just start a new Cave of Flames. I agree on the points Klobber made, though.
