Didn't they do this same exact study on Television? I think it said people who watch TV for over an hour and 1/2 are more violent. Yet, Thompson isn't going on about TV.

You know, that's actually the right answer, but adults in America are always egotistic and don't want to admit to their children that they might be doing wrong just so they don't look bad, therefore they place the blame on some inanimate object or concept that has no actual effect on their children's behaviors.

It can have affect on a child's behavior. That's why ratings and descriptions on the packaging exist.

YES. If a kid somehow learns to be violent from a video game, it wasn't the fault of the game, it was the fault of the parent who couldn't be bothered to check the rating first. So many parents simply let the TV babysit their kids. Its not up to the TV to teach kids, thats the parents' job, IF they decide to take the responsibility. A good parent would make sure a game wasn't violent before buying it for a ten- or twelve-year old. They could at least look at the title of the game, usually that somewhat gives off what the game's about. Parents need to actually raise their kids, and you know what else they need to do? THINK. Think before buying your kid a game that might be violent. Yes, think. That's what they need to do. But that's a difficult concept for too many today.

Funny how a video game sort of touches on what parents often do when their children act violently or irregularly.

"But even though you have built up this image of "self", the minute things go wrong you immediately turn around and blame something else."

""It's not my fault! It's not your fault!"" - MGS2

Ok, it's not really indicating to parents, but the idea works in this context.

Jack Thompson is going have an very loud orgasm over that report ' BAN ALL GAMES, MUSIC, INTRODUCE COMPULSORY MANUAL LABOUR, ROFL! ' ( reading between the lines reveals he's an attention - seeking idiot who wouldn't know common sense if it hit him! ) or something like that.... ahem.... cool.gif

On a more serious note;

Yes, the parents have to accept responibility for thier children and not let the TV be the babysitter but wait, maybe theres a reason for it, the reason is CULTURE.

CULTURE is where BOTH parents have to go out and work to put food on the table, pay off a mortage and send the kids to school, maybe the parents don't have enough time anymore because of said work, etc. this leads to in some cases, indeed the TV being the babysitter. Parents maybe because they are so rushed, don't take the time to read a games rating and this means a 8 year old kid will get thier hands on GTA or DOOM 3

Stop blaming the parents, its not all thier fault, its modern culture, where parents are afraid to punish thier children ( erm.... my brothers bullying of me when I was a child seems to have ensured I turned out OK, you sholud see others in my extened family! ) in fact, somethings wrong when you get told off when trying to displine a younger sibling! No wonder people are going out of control!

No displine = No RESPECT for ANYONE or ANYTHING.

Go fiqure, all....

NHY, consoles and games do not burst their way into a person's house. The parents have control over what they buy for their children. And yes, they are responsible for it. Not culture.

Though isn't culture what brings the games to existance in the first place? :o

violent video games, movies do not hurt children, create murders ect.

I watched Hellraiser at 3, played Mortal Kombat at 5, Doom at 6, more violent movies, resident evil, manhunt, house of the dead, the suffering, soldier of fortune, F.E.A.R and more violent movies and games.

Unyet, i'm a very calm person.
I dont start fights, I have never resorted in fighting back even when I had 11 people beating the **** out of me and I thought I was going to get killed.

I am extremely placid..

I see it this way, if you are going to kill, you have to already have the intention of killing, its just the video games which push it more.
Doesnt mean they werent going to kill eventually.

Then why do they have children? It is indeed the parents' faults even in your given example. If they're too busy to take care of their kids, either don't have kids or send them to a foster home.

That's a stupid reason to not blame the parents. If todays parents would stop being such p*****s and discpline their kids. It's their own fault.

yes but you have forgotten to address one very important aspect of this entire problem:

GAMES DO NOT CREATE SUPER GENOME SOLDIERS I'M SORRY

Idiot kids with existing problems and negligent parents blame the games. Or their parents do. This is what people do. Blame everyone but themselves. It's a fact.

I didn't realize until playing MGS, that when someone sleeps, little Z's fly out of their forheads.

My eyes have been opened.

My eyes have been opened.

And the amount of Z's that appear is proportionate to their level of consciousness.

So if you're going to rape someone while they're asleep, you have a warning now.

Now you kno!

And leaving that typo there is half the awesome.
