a sexually-oriented question nonetheless, and they're always awkward. It's asking about someone you hardly know's sexually preference - that's awkward and embarrassing

Maybe if you're a giggly little 13-year-old high school girl or something.

Most, y'know, mature adults can calmly discuss their orientation without feeling, as you say, "awkward."

Also, maybe that's just how it is in Denmark. Here in SoCal we try to be a little more open-minded and understanding.

edit: @ Mrs. A: not to get on about the nationalism again, and I have no idea where SoCal is but I assume it's somewhere in the states; Denmark doesn't ban gay marriage~

If he/she doesn't want people to know, than a.) the question of whether he/she is homosexual will probably not even come to mind to begin with because he/she'll be trying very hard to fit the straight "norm" (if you will), and also b.) lying exists.

People aren't going to, like, throw a temper tantrum if they're gay and you ask them if they are and they don't want you to know. If anything, that would only blow their cover (if you want to call it that).

But apparently it's too awkward to talk about in casual conversation, which is what we're discussing right now!
