| QUOTE (Guinea @ Nov 4 2005, 09:57 AM) | | Just in case I can't vote myself replace LGH with Kitsune's game (forgot name) because I have this feeling that if it was a bit slower it would be fun. |
Excuse the double post.
I understand that the lot of you have problems with seemingly fast games and I did try my best to tone the speed down. But how many of you have actually considered that try as I might, I may not have full control or understanding of the speed factor in static engines since I started out using them not too long ago?
Shift one variable down, the character suddenly becomes horrendously slow. Shift one variable up, and he suddenly becomes a coffee-fueled madman with rocket fuel firing from his ass. So I try to pick a value in the middle of that to balance things out for myself and ultimately the players.
Second, this game is basically a race to beat the clock. You HAVE to move quickly or else you lose. Besides that, even though I didn't implement a character select, You have three different characters, one of which is randomly selected for you at the beginning of the stage, and guess what Guinea? Mario isn't the fast one. As a matter of fact, he's the slowest, followed by Luigi, and then Yoshi is fastest.
You know what, maybe I should just drop my entry from the competition. All it seems to do is get s**tted upon rather than get constructive criticism regardless of the fact that I've put a good deal of effort into it, even though I lost motivation to work on it ages ago.

Hey, I didn't say you didn't put effort in it. I have said that it looks good. And now especially for you a more detailed review:
Pro: +Original Idea (i think) +Nice graphics +Individual Character abilities
Contra: -I'm sorry, but it is too fast. I can't imagine that they are THAT slow if you just set the speed 1 down. And the fact that Mario is the slowest of all three isn't really an argument against the fastness, he's still fast. I also played with Luigi and Yoshi. -Also the noteblocks just make you bounce up. I don't know if they're supposed to, but I think it would be better if you wouldn't bounce up when you're touching a vertical wall of blocks. -It's unfinished, but that's not that big problem.
I might try it again, but only if you tell me why I lose the pizza all the time without anything happening to my character.

If enemies touch you, you lose the pizza.
If you dash with CTRL, you throw the pizza into the air and if you don't catch it again, you lose it.
Thing is though, dashing is also used to fend off enemies. Some enemies, like the Toadies, can't be killed however, so you have to avoid them altogether, or if you want to be daring and it's flying low, jump over it.
