Q: How do you make games?
A: We use a combonation of different things. One of the more "traditional" and commonplace methods is using one of ClickTeam's products. These are: Click and Create (CnC) (AKA Multimedia Fusion Express (MMFE)), The Games Factory (TGF), and Multimedia Fusion (MMF). TGF and MMF are not free; you can download Shareware versions on the ClickTeam website, and you can purchase copies for $30 to $50 (TGF) and $99 (MMF). CnC and MMFE are not as buggy as TGF, but cannot be downloaded legally. MMF is more complicated than the others but more powerful.
Another program used is called Game Maker. It is completely free, and can be found on the internet for download. It uses a different method for programming, and can be harder or easier, depending on how you handle scripting methods.
There are also other ways to make games. You can search on the internet for free C++ compilers and tutorials. You can go to GBADev and download utilities, tutorials, and sources for making your own GBA games. However, these methods are not very commonplace, and you might need to go elsewhere for help programming with these methods.

I'm not available for battling at this time, because Nintendo thought it was a good idea to completely remove Ditto hunting from Pokemon Platinum.

A nice can of Dr. Pepper helps too (:

Edit: But seriously though, making games isn't an overnight thing. It takes TIME. And if time is something you don't have or aren't willing to devote to making a game, then you might as well find something else to occupy your time.

Exactly. I'm not sure if this guy is an example of this, but I'm always a bit annoyed when a n00b comes to the boards and expects to be able to churn out Toad Strikes Back in a couple of days. Super Mario Epic 2 took me a year and a half to complete. TSB and Pocket Mario have both been in production much, much longer than that.

Yes.

And another thing you should be wary of is how quickly your ideas may come and go. Since Fortunecity GDA got nuked, I've completed maybe only two games I've showcased and those are Bonk and Bomberman (2001) and the remake of Koopa Kombat (2005, there was originally a 2000 release).

I've gone back and forth between several ideas in the last month alone (Koopa Kombat Redux, Pizza Panic, RyuFox Fighters 2, My MLSS2/Super Mario Weekend) so that's another thing to keep in mind. Unless you can organize yourself to stick to several projects at a time, stick to only one or two or you'll be swamped with unfinished game projects in no time at all.

Yeah, I mean, I still have yet to learn about making games. I haven't even posted any of my engines yet because I know that they aren't the greatest and I have a lot more to learn. You can't just cook up a game in one night and expect it to be the greatest or even easy.
