Alright, alright, alright. I've got some splanin to do.
Basically, four or maybe five years ago, when I was making games like a madman, I really wanted to do a Megaman X -esque Mario game. I basically came up with a concept, where the first level would play like a classic mario game, and bowser's at the end of it. But, because he knows if he kills you you'll just come back to life (1-up) he freezes you instead. Then Luigi comes and defeats Bowser once and for all, although he's too late to save you. With the Kingdom finally at peace, Peach marries Luigi, and they become king and queen and die of old age (1-ups can't fix that).
About a week or so following the death of the king and queen, the seemingly-no-longer-existant koopa clan conducts a suprise attack, and takes over the mushroom kingdom (By this time, there are tons of lazers and robots and stuff). Larry Koopa, the last surviving of bowser's kin, leads the attack, as the new king of koopas. The old kingdom becomes a place of ruin.
The only child of Peach and Luigi, Leonora, is now the queen of the maybe thousand or so mushroom people left. She becomes not only their queen, but their military leader, and tries to bring strength to the new kingdom and fight back the koopas for good.
Meanwhile, before his death, E. Gadd cloned himself, so he might further his ghost studies after he has passed. E. Gadd II was created. Then the Mushroom Kingdom tradegy occured, and it was obvious that there were higher priorities then ghost catching. So E. Gadd II cloned himself, to have a partner to help him aid the mushroom kingdom.
But E. Gadd III didn't agree (when he was aged to an age where he could understand). He thought it would be best to follow the koopa clan, as the kingdom was surely done for. After a brief scuffle, E. Gadd III left to join Larry by his side, and renamed himself to E. Vill.
E. Gadd II, now resting injured amongst the ruins of the old kingdom, happened upon an odd object which stood out from the rubble. When he unearthed it, he found it to be mario's coffin. And inside the coffin, was mario's still-frozen-in-time body. Although the body was no good, E. Gall II figures he might be able to save the brain.
So it happens. E. Gadd II builds Mario 2.0, a robotic body with mechanical adaptations of all of mario's old powers. He puts the brain in and, well, that's where the game all begins.
Oh, and E. Vill builds a robot body to put bowser's brain in, because you find out later that Luigi defeated bowser for good by freezing him the same way by accident.
So, first, I'd like to show the old concept sketches from, what was it, 2000 or 2001.

This is what the cast looked like.

This explained the whole freezing thing sort of but not really.

These were a few scenes that were going to be in the game.
When this compotition about the next generation of Mario characters came up (Drawing comp), I instantly remembered this for some reason - especially the "uncle mario" part. So, I tried to re-create that scene...
When I realised...

...I really had to work on the character concepts some more.
So, without further adoo, here they are...

Equipped with in-hand fire blasters, and a feather-fueled jetpack.

In the game, you were going to feel bad for bowser, because his once (sort of) great kingship had been reduced to the role of a mere petty war machine (His shell is a tank full of lava that he shoots at stuff).

I finally made it so she looked like an adult. And she has that rugged Samus hotness to her too.

Working concepts. E. Gadd II is pretty final, but the other 2 need work.
And there... goes my geocities bandwidth!
