You do realize your GC's on it's way out when you have to "recalibrate" your laser right?

The guy who wrote the help file said that 40% of all first GCs have this problem.
I have one of those.
And I don't need it more than one year, since Revolution is going to come, so I have no problem with it.

Crap, I think I didn't turn the potentiometer far enough.
The GC worked well for 2 days and now the DRE's are back...
I guess I have to re-calibrate again. A bit stronger this time.

If you got only two days you might as well stop now because you're just going to burn out the laser a few turns from now.

Why are you so pessimistic?

Because I know that turning the pot increases the voltage to the laser diode which in turn increases its brightness but decreases its life considerably. You might as well just not even bother putting the case back on because you're going to be turning the pot quite often.
I doubt your GC is going to last more than 6 or so months from now, unless you happen to have a tolerant laser.

And I am (not) always pessimistic but it sure helps me get important things done.

EDIT: I'm also interested in how long the PS3, Revolution (maybe) and 360 last because blue lasers die faster than red ones
