For the longest time, my Norton anti-virus stuff has been asking me to renew, for both me and my mother's computer. I have been putting it off, and today I finally asked my mother to help me renew. And she said to uninstall Norton, and instead install something called AVG. She says it's free, easy, updates like Norton does, and somewhat better than Norton. With Norton you have to subscribe, and it's quite a hefty sum. She says this has a free version, but I am a little skeptical of the new service I will get. I don't have any choice but to move to AVG, but I'm still really nervous of UNINSTALLING AN ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM that I have had for a while... does anyone know the +s and -s for AVG?

AVG is free, as efficient as Norton (if not more effecient), has all of its features, and is much easier on the system. There's no reason to use Norton if AVG is available. Pay-for version guarantees better tech support and faster updates, and some pay-for version have new features like a firewall.

I used to have Norton but I ditched it in favor of AVG-Free. Uninstalling Norton isn't going to make all the viruses in the world suddenly dive into your computer. I went over a year without virus protection alltogether.

AVG.

You shouldn't trust Norton, as it doesn't pick up the majority of viruses that come onto your system. In some cases, Norton is responsible for some of the slowdowns on your PC, and therefore isn't doing it's job correctly. This PC had Norton on it for nearly 2 years, and only found like 2 viruses in that time. Once we installed AVG, it picked up something like 100 viruses/spyware in one scan.

AVG on the FREEWARE ARENA

as everyone else has sayed:

do not trust norton.
i have found it to be unreliable.
this computor came with it...
(i would recomend uninstalling it)

after you get AVG installed you will want to run the virus database update.
then scan your computor.

the free edition DOES NOT EXPIRE.
