From Shigetsu Itoi's site, translated by Starmen.net...
QUOTE
After some discussion with Nintendo, I've decided to make a slightly head-start announcement here on Hobonichi. I've worried people quite a bit this whole time, but I'm happy to report that Mother 3 for Game Boy Advance is nearing release.

I've thought to myself, "It should be all right now that it's this far along," on many occasions, but I always made sure not to announce anything until I could say that it was "ABSOLUTELY all right." At any rate, this time I've decided to try and be reserved about everything. It looks like its release date will be about one season away, and I'm in the middle of doing many work retreats to get it finished. I'm going to work especially hard for a short while longer to get everything done.

By announcing this, I'm sure I'll receive all sorts of questions, but I'm probably going to stay quiet about Mother 3 until just before its release. I know the importance of publicity, but what I feel is that I want players to REALLY enjoy Mother 3. So until just before the game comes out, I'm going to remain as quiet as possible.

In any case, we're working on Mother 3. I'm happy as well that it's reached the point where we can make an announcement. Thank you to all who have waited patiently. Please forget about it again for a short while.

Sadly this doesn't tell us much more than we already knew, but it's nice to have further confirmation that the game IS coming. If I have to I'll play through the whole thing with a translation guide, I want this game badly and I doubt it will see a release outside of Japan.

I remember hearing rumblings about some educational software on the DS being localised. If THAT can get localised without a horde of potentually violent fanboys around it...

I hope you're talking about DS Training for Adults.

The demo for that kicked ass.

The name was something like Brain Training, so probably.

Can't wait. Hopefully it'll relate more to Earthbound than "Earthbound 64" was going too (the most relative thing I saw was a few quick shots of Onett, a
quick model that looked slightly like an ugly ness, and another version of Onett with damage similar to that in New Orleans.)

Besides, Ness>Ninten>Flint, but Bones>King.

Oop...I think it is called DS Brain Training for Adults. The way I had it written it sounded like some overaged bed-wetter treatment.

Regardless, that's nifty.

That Ness looked like an adult.

What the hell was up with that?

@:YM Uh, Ness was already a teenager when Earthbound took place, and the game was set to start years later?

@NW: There were a few screens relased on the net of the game: One of Ness, one of Onnet, and one of destroyed Onett. Probably from an intro movie explaining Ness's dissapearance, and the lack of familiar sights if you ask me.

Mother 1 had Ninten, Mother 2 had Ness.

In other words, I would think Mother 3 would take a similar approach with a new set of characters.

Although, Mother 1 and Mother 2's character is basically the same I guess. :-(

Mother 64 had Flint the Cowboy, I'm not sure if it was ever confirmed if the kid in screenshots you guys are referring to was indeed Ness, and considering Mother 1 and 2 had completely different heroes it probably wasn't him

Looks loads like Ness, but then again, Ness looked loads like Ninten, so It could be another character...

Looks loads like Onett, which looks like somthing out of the Simpsons. I think that might be a circus tent in the back, and didn't Threed have a tent that Zombies came out of?

Destoryed Onett. Note the message board on the left that reads Onett (with a huge chunk taken out of it) and the sign for the burger joint.

My theory is that somehow the game would have shown the destruction of Onett and the downfall of Ness.

In other words, I never said Ness was the hero at all. I mearly meant it looked like he was in the game at some point and (and the theory that he is Ness is supported by the fact that Onett was planned) NOT playable.

EarthBound 64 had a different kid who wore a striped shirt and red baseball cap named Lucas who was a main character along with Flint and some other people.
