QUOTE (GamesAreFun)
With the launch of the Xbox 360 a mere 8 days away, Microsoft has released a list of games that WILL be available on November 22nd. Eighteen games will be available on day one, with various others trickling in over the next few months. With the exception of the three games published by Microsoft Game Studios, each title will cost $59.99, while the afformentioned MGS games will weigh in at a more moderate $49.99.

So I guess this means the games will be more expensive after all, unless you have Microsoft's big wads of money to help pad your release.

Here are the $49.99 games:

QUOTE
Kameo: Elements of Power (Microsoft Game Studios)
Perfect Dark Zero (Microsoft Game Studios)
Project Gotham Racing 3 (Microsoft Game Studios)

And the $59.99 money mongers:

QUOTE
Amped 3 (2K Sports)
Call of Duty 2 (Activision)
Condemned: Criminal Origins (Sega)
FIFA 06: Road to the World Cup (Electronic Arts)
Gun (Activision)
Madden NFL 06 (Electronic Arts)
NBA 2K6 (2K Sports)
NBA Live 06 (Electronic Arts)
Need for Speed Most Wanted (Electronic Arts)
NHL 2K6 (2K Sports)
Peter Jackson's King Kong (Ubisoft)
Quake 4 (Activision)
Ridge Racer 6 (Namco)
Tiger Woods PGA Tour '06 (Electronic Arts)
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (Activision)

But good news is, if you're buying an XBOX 360 for Rareware games, this should guarantee they'll always be cheaper titles.

Oh and I think some people were still under the impression that DOA4 was a launch title, so here's a tidbit for you:

QUOTE
Notably absent from the initial list is Dead or Alive 4, which was recently pushed back to December 1st, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which has been pushed back to 2006.

Dang it. Oh well more time for Kameo then(about the DOA4 push back).

I think I'll be sticking to Rare games though, sence they are my top priority anyway.

I'm willing to bet people who thought Microsoft's purchase of Rare was beginning to "sour" will find that Rare is a major force in pulling the XBOX 360 through launch. Most of the other "big titles" (aside from Project Gotham Racing) that people want for the 360 launch are available on the PC or other consoles right now. Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero seem integral to the line-up, because those are two titles that not only can you not find anywhere else, but they come from a renowned development house.

If this is a sign, Revolution and PS3 games are probably gonna cost just as much.

I don't think so. By the time they're both released, the technology will have been out for some time, and therefore not cost as much. PLUS, they'll be trying to out sell Microsoft, so they'll reduce the price so more people buy it.

In that case, then 360 games will cost less?

Games are obviously going to increase in price. I just hope Steel Battalion doesn't become the norm.

Disagreed. Games will most likely cost the same. Companys game have costed the same max price for years, no I don't think its going to reduce.

The prices should go down. Eventually. I hope :/

Xbox games were £45 at first, then dropped back to the slightly more acceptable £40.

N64 games were sometimes 59.99 also.

And Chrono Trigger started with an MSRP of around $75.

And Neo Geo games?

Ridiculous.

But about the Revolution games costing the same amount, I think you're going to find it's Nintendo's mission to make sure that's not the case. If they release a budget system yet fail to back that up with budget games, what's the point?

Although I think we can count on all three systems making cheap games available through their download services.

Yes, although they'll still be pretty expensive. By the time the revolution comes out, I expect most of the Xbox 360 games will be about $40/$45, then over time, this will go down in price again (Especially if they start doing 'platinum versions' or whatever they decide to call it).

Oh, and you still have to pay £30/40 or so for paper mario boxed on ebay, which is probably about $50/60... I'm not sure. Games for the Neo Geo or other consoles that are 'rare' because hardly anyone bought them always go up in price, which is why it's better to buy the games when they come out. I have a NGPC, and many of the games I bought were £29.99 or so. Now, they're nearly retailing at double the price for a pre-owned copy.

I was talking about Neo Geo games at their initial retail price.

They ranged anywhere from $100-200.

Metal Slug 1 is worth $1.300 IIRC. However, there are ofcourse the games that are worth 15 bucks. But keep in mind that the Neo Geo AES games were rarely sold. Low amount of copies of the games exist and thus, increasing the prices.

As for MVS, well, never forget we're talking about Arcade games. Games how the arcades deserve their money.

Again, I'll reiterate that I was talking about initial retail prices, aka what the home console Neo Geo games sold for when they first came out.

Although I must say $1,300 is staggering.

Xbox Live Marketplace Downloadables price list

Mutant Storm looks tasty :>

I was hoping they'd take more of a "iTunes" approach and make it like $0.99 per game.

Because as it stands, you have to pay $5 for:

QUOTE
Gauntlet (400 points) – Midway Home Entertainment
Geometry Wars Retro Evolved (400 points) – Bizzare Creations
Hardwood Backgammon (400 points) – Silver Creek Entertainment
Hardwood Hearts (400 points) – Silver Creek Entertainment
Hardwood Spades (400 points) – Silver Creek Entertainment
Joust (400 points) – Midway Home Entertainment
Robotron 2084 (400 points) – Midway Home Entertainment
Smash TV (400 points) – Midway Home Entertainment

And then mosey on up to $10 for:

QUOTE
Bejeweled 2 (800 points) – Popcap Games
Mutant Storm Reloaded (800 points) – PomPom Games
Outpost Kaloki (800 points) – Wahoo Studios
Robotron 2084 (400 points) – Midway Home Entertainme
Wik: Fable of Souls (800 points) – Reflexive Entertainment
Zuma (800 points) – Popcap Games

And finally there's the $15 whopper, "Bankshot Billiards 2." I've played the first game through MSN Zone, and this sequel would have to make quite a substantial leap to be worth $15. I mean, I wouldn't even pay that much to download a GBA or some DS games, I only excuse paying that amount because I realize there are manufacturing costs covered by that price.

But in a downloadable environment, this pricing doesn't look very reasonable.

Smash TV... for download?
This is awesome.
I also really like the whole marketplace idea. Seeing as how they're going with points rather than money, I have a feeling there'll be chances to earn free points and contests and such.

It's really weird how they charge the lowest amount for Smash TV but make you pay up for a sequel to their "smashing" pool game.

And if you can win points, then it would make more sense. That way the "truly rich" would have to pony up while the rest of us would just grind away at competitions.
