It's a Gateway G6333C and the harddrive is a C Gate 8.4 GB. Whenever we try to format with our Windows XP proffessional CD, the computer freezes up when the format's at 0% and the hard drive makes a scratchy noise.

Try a new harddrive because it sounds like that one just had a head crash
