I have decided to create a Super Mario RPG fangame.

Would it be better to use TGF (Games Factory) or Game Maker 5?

I am getting sprites from The Spriter's Resource and I already have music files.

It would be better not to use a program created by Clickteam at all.

Try looking at the vast selection fo RPGmakers.

Any suggestions?

(Free download only; Not RPG Maker XP or Explorations)

Game Maker isn't made by Clickteam anyway.

Fine, if you want to create a really crappy RPG in a non-RPG maker knock yourself out!

Mind you, you *can* create a good RPG in a game design utility not meant specifically for it. GameMaker and MMF are quite flexible -- in fact, someone made a fully functioning RPG with a save feature in ****ing Klik & Play.

It takes a lot more experience to manipulate something like MMF or TGF to do something like that, though. The best I've seen is a simple Dragon Warrior like battle system.

Would you rather have a simple Earthbound or Final Fantasy-but-not-as-good battle system off of RPGmaker

Which takes just as much experience to get custom battle systems

Wouldn't it be much easier to simply use a default battle system in RPGmaker 2k3 to to create one from scratch using TGF, or GameMaker for that matter?

Which is precisely why you do not use RPG Maker 2003 unless you custom event it into a CBS which requires just as much modification as doing it from scratch because you are doing it from scratch so you COULD use any program at all
