Ok, so in this static engine, I have pretty much everything working correctly except for slopes. I got it so the player can go up the slope with no problems, but going down a slope is still very glitchy. How exactly can I make the player stick to the sloping surface, without half-falling the whole way down in a mess of different animations?

The same thing happens to me when I make a static engine. The best way to solve this is to find a tutorial. The Pixel Movement tutorial at Sonic Fan Games HQ has working slopes.

If you're using MMF, and if you can disect it, you can look in the movement group of events in the high precision movement engine on the site. But that doesn't apply if you're using game maker.

I drew up this flow chart a long time ago, and I'm not claiming it's the fastest or best method for moving on slopes (it actually covers movement in general, including moving up and down slopes), but it works and the concept might give you a little insight to work with. The most relevant part is the right side (moving down a slope), and it's limited to 45° slopes. You can handle steeper slopes at the cost of extra move 1px down and test steps.

Start in the top left box, these are the steps for moving right, and can be adjusted accordingly for the opposite direction.
