Tomorrow is the day Mega Man X Collection will be released for the Nintendo Gamecube and Playstation 2. A few days ago, GamePro Magazine's newest issue (209, Feb. 2006) had a review of the game by GP staffer Major Mike. Here is the review, typed up by GameFAQ's "xxnike629xx":
QUOTE (Major Mike @ GamePro Magazine)
Back in the day, the Mega Man games were notorious for their challenging, platform-hopping/shooting hybrid mechanics. Typical of games in that era, the Mega Man offerings utilized the traditional 2D play scheme and sprite-based graphics--traits that are all but extinct in today's market. Collection is a compilation of the first six Mega Man X games, which were different from the "regular" Mega Man titles in that they were tougher and had a decidedly darker tone in their narratives.

"Good Luck, Mega Man!"
Mega Man's plot is simple: You play a futuristic robotic bounty hunter who travels through different worlds to defeat renegade fellow machines. Part of the fun is discovering the Achilles heel of each boss by experimenting with various weapons obtained from other felled bosses. The stages are long, challenging, and cleverly peppered with hidden areas and additional enhancements.

The visuals vary wildly in quality, reflecting the platforms on which each game originally appeared. One tangible improvement over the original games is that slowdowns has been completely eradicated, making for smoother gameplay. The CD-based sound is also an enhancements over the cartridge-confined tracks, and you can now save games directly to a memory card and avoid the cumbersome password option (which is still available). Plus, diehard fans can unlock Mega Man Battle & Chase, a take on Mario Kart that was never released in the United States.

"Power Shot!"
Younger gamers who don't even know who Mega Man is probably won't be won over by this collection. For the nostalgic retro player who grew up with these titles, though, it's an awesome reminder of when games didn't need flashy graphics and tons of hype to be enjoyable; they were what games should be--fun. Mega Man X Collection is an excellent flashback to old=school gaming in its finest hour.--Major Mike

KEY MOMENT: Finding the right weapon to make quick history of a giant smack-talking boss: priceless

PS2

Control------4.0
Also, it's been confirmed through an email to a Capcom representative that the original SNES version of Mega Man X3 is included in the game, while the PS1 version is the default version.

Still, I wonder if they also included a certain other Mega Man game that was never released in the United States yet the characters exclusive to it made it in the CD Database for the US GBA version of Mega Man and Bass. (Yeah, that's right, Wily Tower)

Sounds great. I'm glad the framerate of X1 got taken care of. X1 annoyed me a bit with the framerate most of the times.

MMAC disappointed me a little because of the controls which it took me a while to get used to. (A = shoot and B = jump) And sometimes I forget about it. Also megaman 8's soundtrack wasn't...near perfect. I mean it didn't play the BGMs normally in the right way, they cutted off like the first 3-10 seconds of the BGMs. sad.gif

Thankfully, every MMX game has control setups in options, I would love to make X dash by using the L button rather than whateverbuttonitwas originally. (I'm used to MMZ nowadays)

EDIT: I heard x4-x6 has voice redubs, is that true? =O

Prolly gonna pick this up. A ton of games for a low price, and the first few X games are great.

S***. Wish I would've though about this before I spent that cash on those two Mortal Kombat N64 games last night. I still have money left over, but not a whole lot. sad.gif

I'm assuming this will go for US$50?

I've heard of Megaman back then I pretty much hated it because of the Battle network commercials.
But when I picked up MMAC I fell in love with the game.
Yet no doubt about it i'll probaly pick this up to.

I've only played up to X3, which I actually didn't like because I hated most of the Mavericks in that game aside Crush Crawfish and Volt Catfish.

And CC's Japanese name is the best ever

My dad just spent $61.50 on WWE Supershow tickets(3 tickets), so he might not buy that awesome game that I will need for my Megaman Collection. Megaman X1 was the only X game I beat, and the only other two I own is X4 and X5, both of which I never have beaten.

Oshi, I forgot I had Mega Man Battle Network, but sold it :/
I would play the SNES Mega Man games at my friend's house, but I guess I never really got into them enough to want them for myself. X Collection would be perfect for me so I can catch up on all of the missed goodness.
