since my title of "man with the most help forum stickies" is soooo important to me, and since mfgg hasn't had something like this since techwolf's old sig, i'll kickstart my second reign of terror on the land of stupid questions with a topic about utility programs, those lovely little things that make your system or favorite programs or whatever just that extra bit better, AND I EXPECT YOU LAZY ASSHOLES TO CHIP IN! >:\ oh yeah and feel free to list things like firefox extensions, perl scripts, technical documents and websites or whatever too if you think they're especially useful. i'll probably have to make this list better organized someday but OH WELL, here we goooooo: for windows:- wizmo, a nifty little windows program that just trips your screensaver when you run it, but especially good for if you have password protection or want to preserve your monitor.
- virtuawin for those of you who always have 50 million windows open, gives you that lovely multi-desktop effect so commonly seen on unix desktops, and it's got all sorts of funky modules to satisfy your crazy mind.
- windizupdate, gives you all the health benefits of windows update without the calories of ie.
- the xp tweaking guide, a lovely not-so-little document on how to pull off all sorts of neat hacks to make xp not quite so goddamn slow.
- annoyances.org, filled to the brim with little and big annoyances with windows and how to fix them, and has a bunch of fine software to boot!
- litePC, home of the famous 98lite and 2000/XPlite that mfgg's resident superstars such as neo hyper yoshi have been reccomending for ages! oh, lucky days!
- nLite, a program similar to the above 98/2000/XPlite, but not only does it allow you to strip garbage from them, you can make an installer cd of them without the garbage to begin with!
- xp power toys, a bunch of funky little programs to tweak various bits and pieces of xp.
- pixie, something for mfgg's resident sprite artists to make picking and choosing colors from images that much easier.
- paint.NET, the "unofficial successor" to ms paint, has a few more features than its ancient ancestor and thankfully manages to avoid gimp's tragic fate of having a hopelessly terrible interface (that should please you xgoff

- belarc advisor, a nifty little program that builds a detailed profile of your machine and what's in it.
- killdisk, for when you want to get your disks formatted fo' real, the way windows can't deliver.
for mac os:- panic, home of various little mac programs for fun and profit (oh i'm so clever!) oh yeah and check out their awesome drawing of abe lincoln while you're at it.
- pathfinder, a thingy that does fancy stuff the normal mac os finder doesn't, but most of you have probably already heard of it thus making me useless ;_;
- desktop manager, a program allegedly similar to the previously mentioned virtuawin in function, but i wouldn't know so sue me.
cross-platform:- mike's ad-blocking hosts, modifies your computer's list of dns entries to block a bunch of ads, so it works with any browser and mac/linux too!
- imagemagick, a nifty set of command-line programs to convert images between formats, among other things.
- pngcrush, for when you want to get your huge-ass pngs really smaaaaaaal.
