This might belong in the help section, but whatever.

Basicly, i have 1500$ to spend on a new computer, but i dont want to just buy a prebuilt system, since you can get so much more building one your self. But, I have no idea where to look for the best deals, and such, and I really dont want to waste all my money and then find out some part isnt going to work or something.

So, basicly, just help me pick out the best parts i can get for 1500$, taking into account that i'll need everything, CPU, RAM, motherboard, graphics card, ect.. ect.

You should buy a 200 dollar one and send me the rest so I can pay for college. Jesus would do it.

Someone move this to Help; there are several topics like this that shouldn't be in here.

About specific parts; I built my machine for under $500 and it is capable of playing many a new game including Quake IV.

For $1500 you could build something truly massive; I recommend you cut costs where you can though and go for the following final set up:

64-bit AMD processor
1GB of PC3200 Speed RAM (Should not cost you more than $60 if you wait and get a good deal, two 512MB sticks)
160GB SATA HDD (7200 RPM) (I got one for $40 after a nice rebate; this appears to be more and more common)
Geforce 6800 GT card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814143037 (just under $400)
Cheapass case ($30 at your local Fry's)
PCI-E capable motherboard

Really should be easy to build an amazing machine with that cash dude

Only advice I'll offer:

- if you don't know how to like, install a processor into a motherboard etc. etc., find out first or be prepared to pay for more thermal grease
- make sure whatever video card you get supports the games you want to play now; don't just go with Geforce automatically because of the nicer compatibility; some games run better on ATI tech.
