Actually, sometimes it works depending on the type of genre of the game..
for example..
A few explicit words, and acts and scenes could work in a sort of Conker's Bad Fur Day type fangame, ok, the people can never pull it off, but it suits the genre of the game.
Acts of violent warfare could work if it was a Mario vs. Hitler game or something like that..
If for example it was called the Super Mario Brothers Super Game and there was rude words, and the enemies were all Hitler, then it wouldn't work.
See what I mean?

I really dislike that all games have music, and that almost none of them allow me to turn it off, so I have to turn off the synth volume so that Winamp doesn't get its feelings hurt. Or, you know, I'm kinda screwed if I'm enjoying a good Zillion midi or something.
Fangames with a limited stock of enemies are boring, too. Fangame creators should be coming up with all sorts of weirdo ways enemies can move and/or attack Mario. What about a piranha plant that jumps from pipe to pipe, eh?
Using game making programs is extremely lazy, but it works IMO, so whatever. :b

Good job alienating yourself from literally every fangamer at this board. |
Two things...
Yes.. nirvana is also over used...
Read Carefully jeff, i said TEND to suck.. not all games in it suck, but there are so many limitations in it, that it just makes them not so great, i admit there are great games made in them, but, those are rare(That cheese one, SME, ect ect). And really, learning to do all those fancy static engines in them, is a waste of time, because you could of learned a real coding language in the time you spent doing that.
Edit: TGF and such is a great start, and a great tool, i still use it myself for animations. and timing. but i prefer coding in java and C++.

...Care if I steal that idea? Because it's very good. | QUOTE (TheSoulBlazer) | | Read Carefully jeff, i said TEND to suck.. not all games in it suck, but there are so many limitations in it, that it just makes them not so great, i admit there are great games made in them, but, those are rare(That cheese one, SME, ect ect). Ah, gotchya. To be honest, you're actually right, the number of fangames created in TGF/MMF that suck tend to outnumber the quality games. Still, the way you worded made it sound like you meant all or nearly all (or like you feel that any game made in that program is automatically inferior to the same game made with code).
The simple fact is I've tried to learn code before and couldn't do it. Maybe I just don't have the attention span, I don't know. What I do know is that I much prefer level design and the such to engine creation, and the Klik products allow me to focus more on designing fun levels than programming movement and the such.

BUILT IN PLATFORM MOVEMENT HATES
1. Getting stuck in blocks or the ceiling, and having to restart the GAME
2. "Hit an object in mid-air" jumping glitch. ESPECIALLY over pits.
3. Hit-the-ground deceleration
4. Climbing up walls, although this can sometimes let you cut huge chunks out of a s***ty level
5. Levels that weren't designed for said movement
OTHER HATES
1. "Shoot an object" unless it's restricted to specific directions (shooting fireballs upwards anyone?)
2. (Usually in GM games) scrolling that gives you 20 pixels of forward viewing distance
3. Coins/objects that serve no purpose whatsoever
4. Having lives when you end up losing them all on the first level
5. Incredibly long games with no save feature
6. MIDI LOOP SKIP
