Star rankings in Mario Kart DS, A topic for those who want star ranks

In this topic, you tell people how you can get star rankings in MKDS.


Tell people what is your best method and if its about snaking, tell people how to do it as well.

To get star rankings...

Spoilers:

For a single star ranking: Get a one-star rank for ALL cups on ALL engine classes. For a double star ranking: Get a two-star rank for ALL cups on ALL engine classes. For a triple star ranking: Get a three-star rank for ALL cups on ALL engine classes. To get a better rank in GP: [1]Always finish 1st place. [2]Don't go off-road. [3]Don't fall off the track. [4]Don't hit obstacles/walls. [5]Don't hit yourself with your own items. [6]It's okay to be hit by your opponent's items, unless they make you end up in one of the above situations (Except the first one).

It's not usually always about snaking.

Actually, I beleive you can hit the walls a certain amount of times before it drops your ranking(I hit the wall several times during a race and still got a 3-star rank).

Off-road I beleive doesn't change the star rank BUT it can probaly slow you down in a race so mabye yeah.

So anyways I'm about 4 cups away from a full 3-star rank(Star Cup, Special Cup, Shell Cup, and Leaf Cup. All 150cc Mirror)

By the way how do you get those little badge things?

You may be able to achieve a 2 star ranking without snaking, but snaking helps quite a lot.



And this is the contradicting part, which makes no sense as to why people argue that snaking is a bad thing.



You will NOT, I repeat, NOT be able to obtain a 3 star ranking WITHOUT snaking, unless you're lucky and get a star for every item on every race/you cheat and hack the game.



I would post a guide on how to do shortcuts on several courses, but then I'd just be repeating what GameFAQ's Mario Kart DS' guides have.


Snaking isn't really something you teach and it's there. You mainly have to try it and keep trying until you've got it. However, if you want to do snaking, choose a kart that has majorly good handling. A good place to practice is the Figure 8 Circuit.

I got a 3-star rank without snaking or hacking, and I didn't get any stars since I was in first most of the time.

Ya know, not hitting alot of walls or falling off, always get 40 pts, etc.

The computer sucks?

Seriously. The computer doesn't snake; neither do you. I have three stars on Shell Cup 50cc and I couldn't snake even if Donkey Kong was beating me.

You can't get 3 stars on the 150cc Mirror Mode without snaking.

While ure all at it, why not join my MKDs race tourney. Now I allow snaking! HURRAY! Join today! About 25 spots left.

As much as I'd like to, it requires that you race every 2 hours, and that won't quite work with my schedule.

i got those without snaking too, just took me longer to get stars on those cause i got used to normal tracks so much (obviously)

If you have to snake just to get three stars, then no offense, but you really, really suck. I consistently get three stars when I'm playing casually. Only if I get proper screwed by large amounts of Blue Shells or Bowser is a dick and drives at a million miles an hour will I ever get two stars.

3 Stars are easily obtained by snaking.

However, hopping is your second greatest weapon/best substitute for turning, since turning slows you down

... you mean you don't get those items 24/7 everytime you do a race on 150cc?




wtf my game's screwed up. Everytime I go into a 150cc mirror mode race, the 8th, 7th and 6th place computer players constantly get blue shells and bullet bills, while the 2nd and 3rd place guys get red shells/3 red shells everytime they get an item.

I have no choice but to snake to get a good time/dodge the red shells as best I can when items keep showing up like that.


EDIT: And every single time I do Bowser's Course, Bowser either hits me and sends me to the lower level under the rotating pipe or hits me into the lava on the first lap. Never fails.
