I think it might be good to make a Banjo-Kazooie game, but I'm not sure. Any help?

It uses it's own scripting language called GML

Mode 7 I wouldn't know since I don't use GM

Game Maker uses a programming language called GML.
GML is similar to C++ in terms of syntax.
Uses variables and functions. Also you can use scripts, DLLs and lot of other cool stuff. Some features like the 3D mode are only accessible when you have registered your Game Maker for 15€/20$.

Game Maker doesn't have a Mode7. Instead it has 3D functions in it that use Direct3D (and it looks far better than the one in Doom mentioned above!). Unfortunatelly the built-in functions only work for drawing in 3D while collisions still stay 2Dimensional.
But there is also a way to make 3D collisions, because you can create your own scripts. So if you are an advanced programmer, you should be able to create a full 3D game with Game Maker 6.1.

I hope this is enough information.
