I just plugged a microphone into my laptop, and tried to test it using sound recorder, but just got some scratches.

So I go to the control panel and test it out... Still doesn't work. Anything specific I need to do to get it to work?

Is it switched on? or it doesn't have that feature?

anyways, it might be the battries, or the speakers.

It doesn't have an on/off feature, so I guess it's the second or third one.

Yeah it's usually the pink port

unless your computer's ancient and still has all the ports the same color

Check the advanced volume controls for Microphone, and make sure that the "Microphone" slider is ticked.

My computer is a laptop, I plugged it in the jack on the side with the microphone picture next to it.

And for the last post, I did that, but I'm just getting a ton of scratching noises.

Open advanced volume, click Options > Properties, tick Recording, click OK, and select the Microphone on the new volume menu.
