Long story short. I drive a 1972 Ford Maverick. Rear Wheel Drive. No ABS. No Airbag. Funky-working old school shoulderbelts. Decided to go to my friends house. Lives on back roads. Muddy, steep upward climb. Tricky, but gravity was on my side. Went to house. Played Farcry on the Xbox, as well as Splinter Cell Co-Op. Both rock. Left at 9:00 PM. Told friend, in 4WD truck, to go first, because in my head I wanted to follow him on his shortcut that I couldn't quite remember how to go through. Stupid idea. Wet. Muddy. Rainy. Now going down hill on muddy, steep downward road. If I try to put the brakes on. It slides. So I try to coast it out. Wrong Answer. Starts to slide a bit to the right. Turn wheel slightly left. Now going left a bit. Turn right. Now heading for right side of bank. Frantically turn left. Can't even tell where I'm heading now. Fwoosh. Leap over bank. Soar through small puddle and up small hill, through several small trees. Stop by hitting several small trees in front of brook. No airbag. Funky Seatbelts. But I feel fine. Front doors won't open. Friend has driven away w/o noticing I crashed. Roll down window and leap out. Front fenders dented to hell. Not sure yet about front bumper, couldn't see it. Rear doors open. Grab flashlight, purchased a week ago to make a movie and left in car. Convienant. Pitch black. Back woods. Strange sounds. Walk to house, use phone, and have dad bring me into work right on time.
Crazy s**t. But I'm glad it happened the way it did. Besides being a crazy sensation (matter of fact, it felt like every similar instance that I've had in dreams. Now it makes sense.), it was another lesson in abandoning material posessions, in that life is life, and how sweet it is to have a 700 dollar car because I don't have to report it as property damage, and can maybe keep my licence if all goes well.
Oh, and poorly installed rear speakers ripped out and flew into back seat. And escape window was left down. And it's still raining. Damn.
