forward port 80 to your computer's IP. Ideally, you should set your computer's IP static so it doesn't change and cause suprises.

The problem is that im using a WAN router... and.. uh, i have no idea how to find my computers IP.

Active DHCP Client Table
This table shows the assigned IP address, MAC address and time expired for each DHCP leased client.
IP Address MAC Address Time Expired(s)
192.168.1.1 00:11:50:15:5e:7b 839064
192.168.1.2 00:02:72:50:65:fa 852345

on your computer, go to start->run, type "cmd", then type "ipconfig"

That will be your IP address.

Well.. i managed to port forward my routers configuration page.

IP-adress . . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
Nätmask . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Standard-gateway . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254

So okay, i port forward 192.168.1.1. and nothing happens when i try to open it in FF. so i set my apache server to listen on that IP. so okay i get my apache connfig file, and makes it listen both to my real ip, and my computer IP. and still, nothing happens when i try to open it from the internet.

verify http://localhost works

make sure you're accessing by your external IP (http://whatismyip.com)

Verify no firewall (like windows firewall) is blocking port 80 on your computer.

Try forwarding another port (like 8088), and binding apache to that instead. Then try accessing http://my.ip.addr.here:8088. Some hosts do block port 80, in which case this is necessary.

check for a firewall on your box like windows firewall. Make sure Apache's working correctly.

You havn't even made it to your router until localhost works.

okay localhost works.

192.168.1.1 works.

My Ip adress goes straight to my router. See, my router has like a inbuilt webserver with all configs and whatnot on a HTML paged.

if your IP from http://whatismyip.com is going to your router (81.225.xxx.xxx) .. that's rather nonstandard. See if you can disable remote management or change the port on your router for remote management. Or follow my last step above to change apache's port to something like 8008 or 8088

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, in addition to the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
Listen 127.0.0.1:80
Listen 192.168.1.1:8080
#Listen "my ip":8080

#
# BindAddress: You can support virtual hosts with this option. This directive
# is used to tell the server which IP address to listen to. It can either
# contain "*", an IP address, or a fully qualified Internet domain name.
# See also the <VirtualHost> and Listen directives.
#
BindAddress "my ip":8080

... if i uncomment my ip, @ listen, apache stops.

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses (0.0.0.0)
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80

Just use listen 8080 without any IP. And don't even have a BindAddress directive - are you using Apache 1.3x? Apache 2.x is much, much better for windows.

the port forwarding option on my router is very weird. it links me back to my router via my internet IP./ it doesnt work at all. I guess my router can't handle webservers. shame. oh well.

I give up.

So both http://81.255.xxx.xxx:80 and http://81.255.xxx.xxx:8080 take you to your router?
